Hi Willem,
Yep your stories are always a good read!

Just wondering what you think of the MRF tyres now that you've got some k's on them. How did they end up going in sand, how much wear, flat tyres etc etc

Cheers

G'day Mr Fixit.....LOL

Hope you had a good trek out west.

MRF's 7.50x16 Super Traction

1. Plurry noisy on the bitumen
2. Very aggressive tread pattern
3. Centre of tread new=13mm. After 15,000km =9mm
4. Tread deeper on edges
5. Some lug chipping
6. Soft gravel ride at 25-28psi
7. Able to drop pressures down to 10psi without spinning off rim
8. Tyre sidewalls unmarked even after some extreme offtrack driving
9. Harder to push through sand
10. Aggresive tread pattern good for digging in and out of trouble..lol

At $180 each including a MRF tube, I am very happy with their performance.

No punctures this trip

Cheers

Pete

Have you read my story "The Secret Cave"? That is on old St Vidgeon Station. Track still goes in there but is extremely washed out. Want to go back some time soon to check it out again before the National Parks people close it off.

Mate - Mate - Mate!!!

That would have to be the best read this year for me...absolutely fantastic. Willem YOU ARE this big wide open country and your stories tell it so well.

I cannot wait for your next adventure...

Very envious of your talent....

Reading backwards up to 2005 now. Excellent read Willem. Question for you, what do you carry in your trailer; fuel and water I presume?

G'day Duncan

The trailer is in a constant state of change as I get new ideas after every trip.

The space is divided into 2 floors made from MDF.

At the present moment I carry 8 jerries of diesel lying down under a false floor and and an Oztent. I have the capacity for another 4 jerries if I leave the tent at home. I carry a spare spring and a Tanami Pump for fuel transfers. When I have a total of 330lt fuel on board I am capable of driving 1500km of bush tracks, which includes off track exploratory stuff, with ease.

On the top floor there are 7x plastic food containers, a Porta potti, a Toilet tent, a Screen Tent, 2 x Roll-up tables, 2 x 2kg gasbottles, 1 x gas stove, 2 x fold up chairs, Frying pan, 2 x Dutch Ovens, Wind-up Shower pole, 2 x 10lts water, Tripod, BBQ Plate, 2 x square buckets, 2 x fold-up buckets, Billy, set of Steak knives, some tarps and some camping mats, a box for tent pegs and a box for spare wheel bearings and U-bolts. On the outside a High Lift Jack, 2 x 20lt water and a spare wheel on the drawbar.

The trailer is now getting a box frame for the top with a new canopy which will incorporate extendable shade covers.

I have made a double bed in the Nissan around the Engel Fridge and Twozone, after removing all but the front seats. Below the bed I keep clothes for 2, HF Radio, 2 x Flasks plus other food stuff, Fire Extinguisher, spare tubes, spare belts and hoses and jumper leads, 3 box tools, 1 Trolley Jack, Bottle jack, Electrical cords, Aircompressor, Rugged tool roll, Tree protector, 2 x spare front shocks, welding gear, winching gear, 4 x 10lt water and other stuff.

Cheers

No wonder you need a trailer. Being able to sleep in the vehicle is handy especially if the weather is particularly inclement or the ground too stoney or hard. You considered a roof top tent for the trailer?

Roof top tents are out as far as I am concerned. I am in the age group where it isn't a practical solution....lol ( Looong ago in another space in time, the missus and I used to sleep on the roof of the Datto G60, as it had full-over cage and roof rack.
