Has anyone had problems with leaving their vehicle at Seisia (ie things broken/stolen) while over in Thursday Island for a few days?

Used to leave my vehicle and boat trailer there to go camping for the weekend but that was in the 70's.
Last year or year before when I was in Bamaga a local teacher asked for a lift to Seisia to catch the ferry to T.I. for the weekend because he didn't want to leave his vehicle there. So if the locals don't want to do it ...

Since my post last night, talked to local (Islander) who lives at Injinoo.
He reckoned no worries although to be on the safe side you could leave your vehicle in the nearby camping area for a small daily fee.
The wharf area is well lit and there are usually people around fishing etc, as well as security patrols. The only temptation he said might be a good set of spotties or HF aerial.

No probs- up there last month-
The 'site' next to us, the owner had gone back to Cairns for 3 weeks.
Don't camp at the front left corner (it's right next to the heli-pad)..

We had no problems when we camped their and went to TI. We stayed at the camp grounds on the foreshores.

Can I also suggest TOP END Machanics. (Just on your left as you drive into Seisa) They have a fairly small workshop just before the Servo and within walking distance from the jetty, but they ahve a yard ther and I'm sure they would elt you park it there. I found them to be VERY helpfull and went ot of thier way to help me out when I was in a spot of bother with a free wheeling hub. Give them a go.
