Thought it time I contributed rather than simply asking for advice. we visited Wollondilly river campground on the weekend. Was a little disappointed to find the sites upriver of the bridge closed, which meant sharing the smaller area near the somewhat eccentric owner and his dogs and horses.
The bonus however on launching the porta bote upriver and cruising with the electric motor was that we found platypus cruising the pools, as
well as tortoises, lizards, and goannas on the rocks and banks. Hadn't seen the platypuses (platypi?) on previous 4 visits, so it says something about undisturbed wildlife.

Nope, not tha I or a guy who sounded confident at glo bugging could determine. ASccording to Brian the owner they donýt anymore because the river is too turbid (something to do with dam releases and city folk) but I suspect that's not necessarily true. I've caught trout in dirtier
water, but not that weekend.

Going back about 15 years they use to run up the river in their thousands, just caught the end of it and have not been back for ten years. Probably got more to do with the extended drought. Muddy
water will not stop them from running unless it is polluted, but rainbows don't usually feed in dirty
water, no problem for browns though

I have been told that the trout can't get out of Waragamba dam to run up the Wollondilly until the dam is around 75% full, so it could be some time before the trout are back in any great numbers.

I Googled "What is the plural of platypus, anyway?"
"Dr Melody Serena from the Australian Platypus Conservancy did manage to clear up the question when she spoke to Leon Compton. Apparently, 'platypus' and 'platypuses' are correct enough for common use but, if you really want to be technical, the term you're looking for is 'platypode'."

I remember some years back spotting a platypus playing around in the
water at the
Murrumbidgee River, down behind the
Bredbo Pub. I was actually frantically casting a fly towards it thinking it was a nice trout feeding in the shallows, till stupid me realised what it was!! der...

LOL your not the first one to make that mistake. Cast to what I thought was a good fish one night at
Oberon Dam, hooked it was having a hell of a battle. Had to be a 10lb brown untill it took off up the bank on the oppisite side of the bay. Bloody big
water rat lol. I let him keep the fly.
Another night I foul hooked a black duck, all very amusing untill it nearly spooled me. Had to chase it for the best part of a K so as not to lose my flyline. Nearly landed it when it gave one last flap and broke the leader. lol

Ah thats like the stupid Albatross that took a live bait one day, while fishing deep sea, then took off like a jumbo into the heavens! That took some fun and luaghter bringing him back down to the boat to safely release him.

creek dam. On another topic how effective is your lsd in the Jack as
mine is hopeless. My old 91 hads a far better lsd and my 98 as only 108000ks on it. See you later

Can't say I've noticed any problem with the LSD in my Jack mate.
My 98's done 120,000k's so far and is an auto.

Mate I am not sure if it is working as it is ment to, or someone in the past has put the wrong oil in and killed it. Apart from that I love it, more fuel efficent than I though.
