Yep … sure was … :-))

Ended up taking 8 weeks.Cairns via Daintree to Cooktown (o/n at Lion’s Den) then to Cape Melville (Bathurst Bay) via Starke, good run with one night on the track. Mud crab and fish at Bathurst Bay. A few days in Lakefield. Off to Coen for Job 1, up to Lockhart River for Job 2. Night at Chilli Beach and Portland Roads … excellent with only a gentle breeze!! Back along Frenchman’s to Batavia Downs … top run, but bent panhard rod crossing the Pascoe (see 49593).

Across to Aurukun for Job 3 then o/night at False Pera Head (good spot). Up to Weipa for a week to do Job 4 and nearby Scherger for Job 5. Replaced fuel filter after dud batch of diesel (I suspect Rockhampton). Up to Mapoon for R&R … excellent.

Then up OTL to top incl Gunshot. Excellent … Gunshot and Nolan’s Brook claimed many vehicles, mainly due to stupidity and an over abundance of testosterone.

Bamaga for Job 6 then over to T.I and Horn for Jobs 7 & 8. R&R at Vyrilla then back down OTL … bypass Gunshot heading South as very difficult, but not impossible if you’re keen and don't mind winching.

Over to Pormpuraaw for Job 9 then loop down to Kowanyama for Job 10. Bit of a tough run + crossing the Mitchell.

Down to Karumba for R&R then across to Normanton for Job 11. On to Burketown for Job 12 (last). Down to Lawn Hill (amazing). Through McKinlay .. “Walkabout Hotel” … aka Crocodile Dundee location … Don’t bother … Give it a miss.

Back through Cloncurry, Winton, Longreach, Barcaldine etc.

9880 km towing 1Tonne+ CT. Average consumption 13.5l/100. Most expensive fuel $2.10/l at Kowanyama. One puncture at Cape Melville, Goodyear Wrangler MTR … excellent run with no obvious chipping. Not a lot of water encountered, max crossing depth 1 metre…. (blind + common sense go a long way up there)

Great trip and covered a hell of a lot of country.

Cheers
