Yep, more and more caravans in the Outback in 2007.

I came across a number of normal road-vans being towed along the Savannah Way between Borroloola and Roper Bar. There were even vans in at Lorella Springs. Most drivers looked unhappy at doing that and most passengers(the SWMBO's) complained about the amount of dust ingressed by the vans.

It won't be long before someone tows a van across the Simpson or along the CSR. It may not be long before there is an abandoned van along one of these tracks.

The people with Roadstars have towed their vans from Marble Bar to Punmu, Kunawarritji and the Gary Junction Road to Alice Springs.

Many people have no idea......LOL

Cheers

So if they choose the right equipment, what's the problem? Is it the fact that they make it look so easy, not the tough, enduring, vehicle breaking journey that some of you 'good 'ol boys' make it out to be. Looks like you'll have to find another playground.

DIO

It is a sign of the times.

And yes, we 'good old boys' do go further afield these days to get away from the hoi polloy.

Willie

We drove out there in '94

The Hon David Carnegie name this native well after his sister Helena and in his diary he called it 'The Diamond of the Desert'

To me it was a salt pan with a depression. I dug it out and the water eventually seeped to the top.

Cheers

I reckon I'll be getting a DVD of the Gall boys towing a Kedron along the CSR soon....they've done every other trek your not supposed to do with a van.

Turned back after toward the Stuart Hwy 10 km out of Roper Bar. There was no way I was putting the car, van and SWMBO through some of the worst corrugations I'd ever come across. I can deal with dust but not getting the !@!#$ shacken out of me for 400 odd km.

I saw a 24' late 70's 2 door hi roof van at the settlement just 8km from Well 33 on the CSR a couple of years.

It was wrecked, not sure whether it was the track via Telfer, or the locals!

Know several people who have towed Jayco windups down the gunbarrel. Some wrecked them, others had no damage.

Myself have towed a Jayco Swan through the Gibb River road in 1992, without a scratch, not even a puncture, although we counted every corrugation. Got chased out by bushfires in the middle of the night at Bell Gorge. The Jayco went through twice in 2 years.
