Interested in your opinion re visiting the Flinders Ranges mid November to mid December. Is it getting a little too hot to enjoy at this time of the year? Would appreciate any input.

We were in the Flinder's area in December 2002, something about the sun hiding behind the moon for a while.

Yes it was hot, yes it was windy and it was carrying lots of dust. It was however very beautiful and we had it almost to ourselves despite the solar eclipse.

Take plenty of drinking water and be prepared to sit out the heat of the day in the shade or maybe driving with the AC on and you could have a good trip.

In a previous job I was lucky enough to work in the Flinders quite a bit over several years. Most of the time we were there from early September till December with occasional R&R breaks at home.

Yes its hot, windy, dusty, dry and all of those things. It can also be wet. But whatever the conditions, its always spectacular. Its my fav place in Australia. Remote but accessible. Excellent camping in Parachilna Gorge and the road to Arkaroola from Blinman has some great scenery. If you get the opportunity, Big Moro Gorge is probably one of the speciest places on earth.

Enjoy it.

No, No, don't listen to him. It's bloody awful there.
Oh allright, so, it's kind of OK.
But not in Brachina Gorge, cause that's my favorite spot and you wouldn't like it there at all.
Oh allright, so, it's kind of OK there too. (I must learn to share more).

Yes, it will most likely be hot and dry at that time of the year, but still, well.....bloody spectacular mate.

Actually, anywhere in the Flinders is good. From places like Rawnsley Park and Wilpena Pound, to the more peaceful "bush camping" places like Brachina and Parachilna Gorges. Or Willow Springs Station (the home of Skytrek) which has a variety of different camping options from bush camping to cabin style accomodation.

Plenty of things to "do" if you wish and plenty of places to "veg out" as well.

Have a great visit.

We will be heading through the Flinders Ranges mid-late Nov with the family. I expect it will be quite warm, maybe mid to high 30's.

I have found from past trips that the Northern Flinders is the hotest around the 1st week of Feb. One year the top temp was 47C while on other trips at the same time of the year again it was about 38C tops.

cheers Anthony

Thank you Duncs, Louie and Anthony,
Appreciate your replies.Well it looks as though it will be quite warm but it is quite possible that we will head off anyway.

Went thru a few Xmas's ago. 48C in the shade at Innamincka. Very dusty and windy in the Flinders.

Cheers. Mick
