better than a copper! I'd just go to
Goulburn if just a constable was on the mind.
Never heard of anyone saying that they have completed this course and what job they got into....had a look at the job thing and youth crime sector looks good.

I now support who ever wins tommorow. I hate Manly with a passion it's a bit like Collingwood I suppose LOL
I think the Ref won the game for Manly though, which I really hate. I don't mind a side getting beaten as long as the ref doesn't play a part.
I hope he doesn't do the GF

psychology....criminal psychology.. to me that sounds like one would be reading the brain of a crim.... What I would like to know is ...how do you read a brain when it's not there.

Diver
My mate is studying criminology and psychology to eventually become a detective. Here in WA there is a strong relationship between Edith Cowan University and the nearby police academy.
Personally i'm about to finish a B.A majoring in Communications and Psychology - what areas interest you?

Hey Big_red87.
Would love to be a detective so thinking psychology. But also like the idea of youth crime or even indiginous crime - something that wont make me work in a major city!! I want regional work!! It would be great to get into forensics but I aint got the brain for science!
The course is through
Griffith via open universities and done by correspondance.
Cheers,
Laura

Despite what a lot of people may think there is also quite a lot of science involved in a psychology degree. People have a perception of psychologists as people who sit in a chair and repeat the cliche usual "and how does that make u feel..." bullchit.
Studying psych does actually involve a fair amount of science. There's biology in terms of understanding the way neurotransmitters work in the brain etc. There's also a lot of maths and statistics used to interpret extremely complex sets of data gathered from the numerous different testing procedures.
It's definately an interesting course but many people do find that what they learn is not what they were expecting.

Hi
Laura,
I am Scoey's other half (he told me about your question on here). I completed a Bachelor of Justice Studies with a double major in Criminology and Justice Policy in 2004. I was aiming to end up in Rehabilitation and work with the prisons. When I finished my degree I found it very hard to find any information about anything to do with Rehab jobs and ended up leaning that you pretty much had to know someone who knew someone who could get you a VOLUNTEERING role in the prison - from there you hoped that you could get a paying job after volunteering for a while. Not sure what you are hoping to get into from the degree? Most of my friends used it as a stepping stone into Law. Others used it as a stepping stone into the Police Force as QLD does not allow people in their early 20's to apply - the want life experience - so that is one of the main reasons they developed the degree - something to do while waiting around basically! The rest of us who did not want Law or the Police were pretty lost - we had no help from the uni in where to look/apply for jobs either. I am now back at uni - studying a Post Graduate degree in education - need I say more? I gave up on the first degree as I did not want to be in Law or the Police Force and could not find anything else that I could get into with the degree. One more thing which might suggest a lot to you - a girl I did the first degree with is also doing education with me after having the same issues I did - she never worked in the field either.
I'm not sure what the NSW degrees are like but I have heard that
Griffith has a better version than the QUT one I did.
Good luck!
Anna

Thanks Anna
Looks like a dip ed could end up the way I go - all options open. I looked at the prison side of the course and thought that Crime prevention would be good to aim for whether its youth or indiginous not sure...... Ive always like the idea of detective work too so majoring in Psychology would be a goer...
