Try the Wattagans.

You could also try a little town out through Windsor up the
Putty rd towards
Singleton a place called Broke.I stumbled across it on a recent trip to
Sydney free camping along the river banks, nice & shady with
toilet block &
water.I did not stay there but would have if i had had more time to spare & you could also visit the NP which you have to go through ,more or less to get there. The name escapes my mind at this moment but it will be in your map.
Cheers Bob.

You failed to mention it is one of the premium wine producing areas in Oz. I hope you didn't miss that aspect of the area ;-)))

On a long weekend you need to subtract two hours in travel time due to traffic. Therefore the radius you can travel from
Sydney in four hours is much shorter; especially the return trip when EVERYONE is trying to get home. It took us 8 HOURS from Forster a couple of years ago on the October long weekend.
Travel when there isn't a long weekend and take a sickie on the Monday, or if you've got a nice boss just tell him the truth.

Then get your boss stuck late on a Sunday Afternoon and spend the rest of the night trying to recover him LOL

Yengo NP is a good drive - mixture of on and off road and meets your time/distance requirements. Scenery is great and the wildlife at the western end needs to be watched if travelling late or early in the day. Look in the Treks section on this
forum.
cheers
