I have been pro fuel/oil additives since I heard the story of a vehicle travelling from
Adelaide to
Sydney after the oil and additive were drained from the sump and measurement indicated no wear on the cylinders. I have also used the model where you turn a handle and 2 bearings move. One bearing turns in oil and the other has the additive. You can notice the difference. On our Landcruiser and small Corolla hatch, diffs, gearboxes, and engines have the additive.
In regard to Fuel, I have used Nulon, for the Petrol and Diesel engines in the main to clean the injectors but recently have tried Chemtech Diesel Fuel additive and Valvoline Fuel (unleaded) Injector and Carby cleaner. My problem is that unlike the oil additive where I can see/feel the difference, the fuel additives are a lot harder to determine the benefits.
It may be a bit like smoking/cancer 1 smoke does not kill you but 20,000 will put you under. One dose of fuel additive does not make a difference, using it on every tankfull will delay an injector replacement by say 20,000k. On my turbo diesel Cruiser I change the fuel filter every 5,000k so this could mask the benefit of the fuel additive also.
Would appreciate your comment on Fuel additives.

I prefer Nulon or Wynnes
Is a patented, ashless fuel additive that significantly reduces black smoke emissions from diesel engines, while providing improved power and fuel economy. Helps keep diesel injectors clean.

I've been using Flash Lube in my 95 series Prado turbo diesel now for several months. I'm not sure how much difference its made as I started using it about the same time a got a better exhaust fitted and removed the Hiclones.
Fuel economy went from 11.5L/100 km down to 9.9L/100 km.

I am told truck drivers use fuel additive so they must have done their sums. Cost a lot to add to their tanks. I reckon oil additives are a waste. I saw a demo once by a wynns rep comparing straight additive to to premium oil. Not a fair test but the oil was nearly as effective as the additive at protecting ball bearings immersed in acid.
I think I get better economy with fuel add and it used to help an old diesel I used to own with controlling the smoke from exhaust.\

I use Chemtec, and use it most of the time, and defiinately on trips, because you just never know if you are gunna get a dirty batch.
You can notice it if you miss a couple of tanks in a row, but otherwise it just does its job ( hopefully )
I expect big K's out of the motor, in the Navara, and by keeping the fuel and injectors pristine, is one of the best.
Cheers
