Hi there can anyone recommend a caravan cover to suit Jayco Eagle Outback. As the van will be outside, the cover needs to be waterproof.

Yes, I have the exact same trailer and bought one from Jayco Sydney for $160 approx 3 weeks ago. It fits exactly and is waterproof and has ties that go under the trailer and elastic around the perimeter.

Well worth the $ in my opinion.

cheers
John

Took a Camec brought cover off my van yesterday and it will most likley end up in the bin. Made in China the material is pretty ordinary and from memory it wasnt cheap ($400 >$500 ??). The eye-lets pulled out and strong winds are enough to rip and tear the fabric. I wont be buying a replacment of the same brand.

Thanks John is this the Sunliner Prestige Camper Cover. If so I was quoted $289 from a Jayco dealer.

Wouldnt swear to it but it is a familiar name. Soft greyish material that wont scratch and is waterproof, very pleased with mine. I got it from Jayco Sydney.

I recommend that you do not buy a caravan cover that has similar material to the blue tarps that you can buy in Bunnings. This material keeps water out of the van, but we had such a tarp on our van outside and with the wind blowing the tarp literally sanded away the paint on the front top edge and back top edge of our van down to the aluminium. I believe even soft material will cause a similar action if left on for a long time.

When we went to sell the van, it required a paint job in the rubbed down areas, and of course the new paint was quiet evident.

if I was doing it again, I think I would purchase a gazebo 6m x 3m and extend it if necessary, and securely tie it down.

Thanks for the advice - I never even thought about scratching. Defeats the purpose of having a cover doesn't it

I am not suggesting for one moment that you should not have a cover, you need one to keep the water out, paint wear/scratching is secondary.

I thought our previous van was invincible, no leaks out in the weather for 5 years without any cover. Then the timber under the front window started to swell, it was chipboard!!!!

For our new van we built a 16m x 9m pergola for family get togethers, with our 21ft 6 van under the end . The pergola will also help to lengthen the life of our awning the plastic only seems to have a life of 5 years or a bit more in direct sunlight.

Any leaks/stains will decrease the value of your investment and probably subconsciously your feelings for the van.

Just another thought! Our neighbour had one over his van in summer and the heat generated affected the interior roof lining. Luckily it was repaired under warranty
