Gday,
Im trying to convert a natmap 250K mosaic map using Img2ozf software thingy.
It is going to take all day and all night at the speed it is going at
(pass 1: 33660 of 109527) after about 40 mins.
Is there anything I can do about it ? Or is it just a huge file?
If I convert it in sections its a lot quicker but my PDA wont recognise it as one map obviously.
Any Ideas????
Cheers

Once (if) you finally get the file converted it will be too large for the PDA with OziExplorer to load and run.
May as
well quit now.
If you do it in sections and load each section to the map folder, Oziexplorer will run each (smaller) map section as you pass across the map edge.
Cheers

You can try and reduce the size and colours of the map, the quality of the map will be OK for the small screen of the PDA.
I use the individual maps on the PDA as each one has all the info of a paper map on it, and it's easier to fined maps

Pretty normal, I once had a map take 5 days, and even after that it was somewhat unuseable.
As mentioned previously, do smaller sections e.g. each zone, and even reduce the colours a bit. 36 seems to be the right number for most. This also makes it easier for the PDA to handle.
you will also find some good info here:

good luck.

Hairy,
just curious as to why you are using Imgozf2??? I save
mine directly from Natmap Raster Viewer as ECW files, import them into Ozi on the desktop and then transfer teh ECW and teh associated .map file to the Pocket PC which reads them straight into OziExplorer. I do have to do them in smaller sections though.

Why? Er...dont really know to be honest.
I think it was on the oziexplorer website where I was put on to it.

Depends on your PDA. I think it's only the PDAs with ARM cpus that can use ECW files in Oziexplorer. I know
mine can, but it's an 'ancient' PDA

Hairy,
I made the same mistake. As said above, when you save the map in teh viewer, I adjust the view to a practical size and this will take practice as to what is a good size, I then use "Save Current view", when Natmap Viewer asks select the pulldown and choose .ECW and point it to you Ozi map folder on your PC. Once the process is complete, and the said size will govern the time taken for this, open Ozi on your PC and select File>>Import Map and select ECW. Ozi will ask for the folder in which you placed teh .ECW. Once the import is complete you can navigate back to the Ozi Map folder and you will notice that there is now a .MAP file with teh same name as teh .ECW file. You need to drop both of these files onto your Pocket PC.
Hope this helps. Give me a yell if any probs.

Bin there. Now I got the latest premium Natmap and it come with six moaic maps one for each zone. Also one mosaic of entire continent but I think the accuracy falls of too much.
I loaded the entire thing and dropped the sat maps to save room on the drive. I think I will drop the lot except the six mosaics for that reason. I can play with the other maps on the desktop if I want to.
There is a useful looking 20m map with all the main roads too.
I read mention of someone using a 12" screen with a laptop so I will be looking for one soon. My Yvonne dont like the laptop sitting on her knees all day so I gotta do something.

Hello - think you've got the answer you wanted anyway but here is the link to the OziExplorer web page that specifically states the Natmap Mosaic is too big to convert/use in ozf3 format.
Australian Page - Oziexplorer web site
Basically you have two options - use the ecw file or cut sections of the mosaic using the natmap software...method described here

Interesting. I managed to convert to ozf2 format a couple of years back for use in a friends PDA that could not utilise the ECW format.
Total size with reduced colours (64) and 50% size - 620,011,842 bytes.

Yes - comments on their website are confusing. They say "Mosaic map is too big to convert" .....but then they say.."it will be too big when converted".
Interpretation - you can convert it but file will be too big to use in OziCe as it has file size limitations. Solution - do what you did and reduce colours and/or image size to make resulting OZF3 file of an acceptable size (or buy new PDA). No idea why they don't suggest reducing file size as an option on the website - their comments are a bit misleading.
Cheers

Hairy,
It does take a while but here's what I did.
Firstly, use a card reader containing your CF card, or whatever, so the conversion is "localised" to the PC itself.
Secondlly, only the eight 250K mosaic fiiles, Zone49 through Zone56 require conversion.
I ran the conversion on each file separately.
You should end up with an mga file for each zone converted.
