I was at Mt Dare weekend before last and had the chance to catch up with the ever helpful Dave Cox.
He is currently on his way down to
Adelaide for the 4x4 show and is bringing some local indigenous art for sale on his stand there, so look him up.
We discussed the earlier proposed proposition that the 2008 NatGath be held at Mt Dare and that proceeds be directed to RFDS in honour of the late Ian Stabler - one of nature's gentlemen, a great contributor to this
forum and to knowledge, community and enjoyment of the outback who sadly was lost in an outback accident earlier this year.
Dave was pleased to support the idea. He advised that Pat Stabler planned to work at Mt Dare next season, after returning from the UK, but that we should go ahead and make the plans.
So, with that imprimatur, we now need to decide when, and map out a plan for how (details of what activities would surround it, for instance).
Cheers
Andrew.

Andrew,
Sounds good.
From the previous post (
This one)
Lucky suggested maybe Dalhousie instead and travel to Mt Dare for some sort of Tribute/
memorial.
But that is something that everyone needs to agree to plus rumour has it that David also has a National Gathering in mind as
well.
Cheers Kev

Um... I'm not sleeping at Dalhousie again.
The mozzies can carry you off single-handedly if they wished. Only problem is they hunt in squadrons.
Strongly recommend Mt. Dare, so long as David (presumably you mean the Martin variety) is supportive...
Cheers

Yes I meant the EO David :))
Dalhousie might be right for the mozzies as there would be enough of us to share them LOL

I dunno Kev.
I reckon when word of the impending human wave spread, they'd breed up like Pollies Promises before an election.

Andrew
If it at the same time as NSW school Holidays ( problem with being married to a teacher) I would love to be in on it. Would much rather Mt Dare as the area at Delhousie seemed to be over full when we were out there this year. Great for a swim though

Which States mid year school holidays overlap??
It may be worth doing it during the overlap of holidays so more can get there.

Why can't they all have the same time peroid off.
I reckon going by that it should be somewhere between the 4 Jul and the 13 Jul 08
QLD will miss out for the school holiday period but that way all other states will be able to make it. The QLDers hopefully will be able to sort something out if it is locked in now.
Cheers Kev

Sounds like my vote too Kev... let's say we give folks some time in the school hols to get there and back - make it 10th-13th.
Suggested activities around the show:
before: 2-day trip to Chambers Pillar/Titjikala - go up via Finke Road and back via Old
Andado (say)
Coober Pedy, Breakaways and
Painted Desert
during: Old
Andado and Mac Clarke Reserve Day Trip
Dalhousie Springs Day Trip
Abminga and Pedirka Day Trip
Reptile hunting trip
Birdwatching trip
Cattle mustering at a neighbouring station - perhaps
Andado or New Crown?
after: Desert Crossing - perhaps one group that wants to do French line and one for
Rig Road...
There's my ideas for now.
Cheers
Andrew.

Andrew,
I'm trying to start a new job so I'll have to negotiate the time off when I start LOL
I will probably do a East west crossing getting there and reverse for the return.
But those plans sounds good.
