We all dream of having the 6.5 V8 Chevy Diesel fitted under the bonnet, I know, I have , even went to the factory for a look ,
But after what I seen today parked In
Warwick you can forget all about V8 Conversions, Gas Conversions , and just forget all about Fuel economy , I am still wondering how it would go on the crest of Big Red .....
I took some photo's to make your mouth's drool and eyes POP.

Hmm, His every day car?
Methinks he has another (conventional) donk sitting under the cab
seat?
Would raise a few eyebrows (probably even singe a few) if he fired up the jet engine "in town" hey!

Can't see how that thing is drawing air in from the front with the engine sitting so tight behind the cab??
Wonder if it actually runs or its just bolted on for show?

With that fuel
tank i would say you would have just enough JetA1 on board to get you to the top and run out at about 200ft AGL LOL

Hey Doug.
I have met MAD once or twice years ago, I used to race a XC Falcon at Hidden Vally Drag Strip.
There is a very good reason they call him MAD.
Cheers Steve.

Steve
this would have very funny ...and yes dangerous too but it's the Territory way,
The first ride on lawn mower race in
Darwin was held in 1986 at the Freds Pass rual show, it was a fairly quite event with only the local ride on mowers.
1987 saw a collection of hand built hotted up specials including MADs Austin 1800.
1988 the race got bigger including Bob Koiks 'Lindy Chamberlain' V8 Tactor which attracted the ABC COUNTRY WIDE program to run a national screened film titled KILLER MOWERS. With the mowers getting faster , several roll overs , a mower at full throttle and no driver going through the show dog exhibit and Lindy Chamberlain going through the crowd the event was deemed to dangerous and cancelled .
The Ron(Mad) Laycock Austin 1800 and Bob Koiks Lindy Chamberlain tractor will always be the 2 mowers ? to remember as the highlights of lawn mower racing in
Darwin.
Unbelievable
..

Met a bloke a few years ago with a jet engine mounted on the back of a prime mover. I asked him how fast it would go hooked onto a road train????? I didn't get a reasonable answer. I don't believe that he had heard of action / reaction

That bloke was probably Ray Kernigan (father of Lee Kernigan ) who had been associated with the Ford product adopted the truck and named an Album after her “Jet Set Country “ which was a best seller.
The Truck Today
And this was Waltzing Matilda in all her Glory

Doug
Was fortunate enough to meet Stephen and the truck at an Indy demo many years back just after he broke the record. He signed my shirt with "228 MPH World Record". I have kept the shirt and got it out tonight for a bit of nostalgia. In our "happy" state at the time me and the lads would not let him
sign off as Waltzing Matilda, but we made him call it the "Truckasaurus"
The noise that thing made from 20 metres away made some women around us cry and is still the talking point of Indy all these years later with my friends - just awesome
Thanks for the story
Cheers
A
