Depends on your needs, but if you just want to talk to someone without all the bells and whistles then try and buy a GME TX 3200.

Also depends on how much you want to spend. I had a uniden uh100 mounted in the dash of my patrol. A little bit of mucking around for something that was stuck in the car and didn't get used much. I also have a uniden uh075 handheld. 5 watt portable and no holes in dash, great battery life and I can take it out of car if going on a walk etc.

Any of the ones with a remote control head should do. They are easier to install as the bulk of the radio goes under the seat and the small head is easier to mount in a place where you can access it easily.

I have just installed (Well a mate has installed) the GME TX 3440 with all controls on the Microphone into my Frontera...

Its a great little unit but on the slightly pricier side. Got a great deal from Electric Bug in Adelaide (no affiliation - just satisfied customer)...

Cheers
