Hi All I need some tips /advise about a barra fishing trip I’m planning for next September-October for approx 4 – 5 days fly in fly out with the Mrs. Was thinking about Wiepa or Cape York, Darwin, Tiwi Island. I don’t know much about the areas But love my fishing and a dream would be to be let loose with a guide in barra waters for two days and a couple more days to take in the sights .Only a short stay because the kids will be looked after for the duration in Sydney. I would love to here about your trip/s and if you have recommendations of places or guides other than what I have listed.Unfortunately I also have a budget so five star is out

Thanks Michael H

Michael ,

I can recommend Darwin Barra Fishing . I have been into Arnhem land with them three times and also done the South and East Alligator , the Mary and the Daly with them . Very professional and they work really hard to get you fish .

I have fished with many outfits up there over the years , but they are the best - in my humble opinion .

October should be a good time .

Tight lines ,

Willie .

Michael ,
What pic like mine ?
You will not be able to do the remote camp out at the island just for two days ( I don't think so anyway ) . Endyalgout ( spelt ? ) Island on the Coburg Pen. , is half a day in and the same out ( from Darwin ).

Michael ,

Yes , your right , I have two on page 6 . You have a good memory !

That was the best Queenfish I have ever caught - not a GT - but there are heaps of small to med GTs off the coast from the island .

John owns the business - his wife is also on page 6 , holding three beautiful barra .

In 15 minutes at the island , I hooked three barra over a metre . I dropped one and landed a 102 and a 112 cm .

Thanks Tessa I'll check them out. From what I can work out Sep/Oct may not be the best time for barra fishing, what time of the year would you suggest?.

Michael

I fished July 2004 with Preston ( charter bloke) and we bagged out by 10.00am but continued all day catch & release. We didn't get any monsters - up to about 85cm, but Preston said if you want the metre plus fish the best time is May.
Hope this helps.

I fished Melville Island a few years back. Its about a 40 minute flight from Darwin. Fishing was sensational. October was their recommended best month of the year.

Michael,

Try Dean Jackson @ Cooinda. Ph: 0427 790 004

He does half & full day charters on Yellow Waters, and usually gets a few barra.

Sept/Oct is beginning to get warm, and if you come from down south, the afternoons can be a bit hot/humid. We went up there at that time a few years ago, and found it sometimes uncomfortable, and we live in west qld where it can get very hot.

Cooinda is only a couple of hours from Darwin, so would suit your limited schedule. July/Aug would be better weather.

Hooroo...

Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

Thanks Bob If I have to I might stay in Darwin and book in day trips as you suggest, I could fish 5 days straight but it might be pushing it with the Mrs.

Weipa is my favourite fishing spot. Plenty of guides and easy access by plane from Cairns. You have so many fish species to choose from.
