Hi Everyone,
Just a quick question, I am looking at batteries for my van. If I buy two of these Trojan T105 225 A/H 6v Deep-cycle and run them at twelve volts will that give me 225 a/h?
Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,
In a word, yes.

Yes - and here's a way to check it.
The watthours always have to be conserved when you combine two batteries.
One battery has 6 x 225 = 1350 watthours
If you have two of these in series you have 12 x 225 = 2700 watthours.
If you have two of these batteries in parallel you have 6 x 450 = 2700 watthours.
btw it's ah (amphours), not a/h which implies amps per hour.

Matt,
Can't really see much sense in buying 2 6 volt batteries unless they are dirt cheap. You would always have to have them connected togher in series (+ve to -ve) for supplying 12 volt power and also to charge with a 12 volt charger.
Sounds rather messy to me mate.

Thanks guys,
I can get the 6 volt batteries cheapish. Cheaper than two 100A/H in 12 volt. So I will be getting more a/h for less and if one drops a cell I only have to replace a cheaper battery. Thats my idea anyway
Cheers

Matt,
Even at a modest 56 Kg, 225 Amps is still a lot of raw battery "P O W E R"
(my 2 x AGM's = 62 Kg @ ~232 Amps)
Use thick cable to connect the two batteries and have the lugs correctly & securely fitted, remember a loose 225 Amp power cable will make a large spark so get 'qualified' advice on a "decent fuse system" as a safeguard.
You say "and if one drops a cell I only have to replace a cheaper battery" it won't drop a cell if it's looked after correctly, and it's a gr8 opportunity to get into some 'serious' storage capacity when you get the opportunity as you obviously have.

Go with it.
I used to run two 6V batteries in my old Maverick coz I was able to fit two in lengthways under the bonnet, giving me quite a bit more AH capacity than a single N70.
I have had a cell die, even tho I did look after the batteries. But if one cell dies, I wouldn't be replacing just one battery - you'd be running one tired battery and one new battery in series - not a good combo.
