Regarding "returning" for warranty - any Cooper Tire dealer will/should look after you. I dealt with a different dealer from the one that the tyres were originally bought from when arranging to get replacement tyres due to chipping and block tear.

When I had coopers, a few years ago now, they gave me a book that needed stamping by a coopers dealer for the wheel alignment and rotation.

I didn't get the milage of the guarantee, so got another set at RRP less discount calculated pro-rata on the milage. They did check I had all the services done.

I've got a set of HT Coopers as I am caravaning mainly now and they are quieter. I am not worrying about the book, because I reckon that if they last till 60k they barely qualify for me to buy them again. If they don't I certainly won't be putting them on again, discount or not. I am used to getting 80K + from BFG all terrains.

I have always got regular rotates & balances and wheel alignments when I know the car needs them. At 15 k they are ok so far.

Always reckon it's a clever warrenty by Cooper that gets someone to buy a product a 2nd time around that never lived up to expectations in the 1st place as well as get additional alignments & balances done that often aren't even required. And this on one of the more expensive tyres too.
If the tyre does wear well then the fella will be back to get another set. If they dont wear very well then he'll be back anyway to make a claim, only problem is they are replaced by the very tyre that didn't wear very well first time. Brilliant marketing.
Cheers Craig................

While I have a set of ATR's (265/65R17) and am reasonably happy with them at 20,000 k's, I think their mileage warranty is a load of crap.

If you rotate, balance and have an alignment done every 10,000 k at $200 a pop ($25 x5 + $75), then to cover my 60,000 guarantee it would cost me $1000.00! Now if I divide that by the 5 tyres I bought, that works out to be $200 ..... which is EXACTLY what I paid for them in the first place.

Told my dealer that he was dreaming and that if I didn't get at least 70K out of them, I would never buy another Cooper again. He agreed to "stamp" my book if I bought them in every 20K for rotation and balance and an alignment "when necessary".

As I said .... reasonably happy so far and looking at 70+k if they keep going the way they are.

Geoff

PS: I'm pretty meticulous about pressures and watching for uneven wear.

Its good to see I'm not the only cynic who does not buy into Coopers' "sell the mug another set if the first one does not perform" programme!

Care is one thing, rip off quite another.

Agree with you about the cost of keeping up the warranty.
I spent 50% of new tyres on warranty, and then when I claimed under warranty, they work back from RRP, not the price they sell them at over the counter. SO with pro-rata claim (got 55,000k, not the 80,000k), I ended up paying not much less than what I would have done coming in off the street.
Not complaining about the tyres. Reasonable to good tyre at the middle to higher price end.
Just been back to the local Coopers dealer, and bought some Kumhos. With the Mickey Thompsons also being sold there, they don't seem to be pushing the Coopers as much as they used to. Was offered Maxxis as well.

From what i read when we bought the stt's the warrenty was only good in major cities - ie Nowra is not a major city and therefore even if we had the ht's we would have to take it to sydney ( or wollongong) for rotate etc....

ours have been great.....done 18,000km......

No tyre mileage warranty is worth having.
The costs of keeping the warranty outweigh the benefits which are only prorata.

Coopers prorata is just a suck to get city folk into buying more Crapers tyres.

Sorry guys, but I cant see anywhere that I asked what you thought of them, I was just wanting to find out about their warranty and if u need to take them back to the same place for wheel alignments etc.

Yes I know you all hate them, why dont you all take out a class action against them if you think they are so bad.

Justin, why so touchy, People re just trying to help you not to make the same stuffups we all have. Had I posted a question here I might have saved myself the hassles I received (and cost) of buying the Cooper HT. The problem with action is that the bloody fine print says that they are not covered under any warranty if driven off the bitumen. (Really suited to Aussie conditions even in the cities, not)

Yeah, take them back to the original supplier, ASSUMING that the bad reports are wrong, and you manage to get there without a dozen sidewall spikes, blocks flying off causing debris like an exploding meteorite, and you have enough puncture repair kits for the 200 flats on the way.
I have never had Coopers for first hand experience, but I would suggest that maximising warranty by servicing at the place of origin when possible and feasible, or other Cooper approved station when needed.
Cheers

I like the look of the BF Goodrich T/A, but I think I read that they clog up with mud and are then terrible. I liked the D694 Duelers when I had a set but I didnt get a great amount of wear out of them so I wouldnt get them again. They have the Pirellis STR for sale at the local tyre place, but I want an AT tyre, not a road tyre.
The pirelli AT tyre doesnt look bad, but I remember some people saying they were crap as well. There should be a survey on here and what the majority are finding the best tyres.
I just want a good wearing nice looking AT tyre. The coopers look great but all the bad feedback on here always makes me stop and think I might have the same luck etc.

You don't hear much bad feedback about BFGs, I ahv enever ahd them, because after my experience with Coopers I decided never to pay that much for tyres again.
Is there a tyre that doesn't clog with clay?

I've been watching all these posts on Coopers for awhile now. It seems strange that people running Coopers & having problems with tyre wear & damage. I have been running a set of Cooper AT's for 60,000 kms now - mostly 60/40 bitumen/offroad. The off-road conditions have been gravel to hard rocky tracks. There is very little damage to the tread & sidewalls. I don't rotate or wheel balance only if it is necessary & run them at 35psi front & 40psi rear. The way the wear rate is progressing I should get 80,000km easily. Perhaps it's the way I drive to the road & track conditions..........Cheers.

I hear what you are saying. I am 25k's into a set of STCs and they are doing extremely well given driving is primarily offroad.

see thread 50518 and current trhread for my recent experience. The service received from the dealer was pathetic. Coops finally com to the party. Yes you need to get bal align from an authorized coops dealer, however the maxxix I just put on to replace the 5000k old coops were cheaper and the cost of align etc was cheaper and better done at Bob Jane. Don't recomend HT coops, as also is like driving on a water bed.
