Second Expert Report Diet and Cancer

You may have noticed news reports today about reccomendations
from the all encompassing report on health from the World Cancer Foundation.

This is an amazing explanation of a huge mass of conditions risk factors and resulting reccomendations.

At over 500 pages (12meg) and downloadable for free I think it may be a useful reference resource for those genuinely trying to stay out in the bush longer.

Following on from the similar watershed UN report on climate change we are finally getting widely supported, but not unamimous, evidence based answers on some of our big issues.

537 pages. Just a little light reading before we go to bed. I might skip the causes section before I drop off to sleep as it would probably give me nightmares. LOL

Hi Des
Its great to get quality reference material free but fortunately
it is summarized in two lovely foldouts you can printout out seperately which list all of the food/health risk factors and diease in a sort of pictogram which which makes it easy to see the key issues.

I've saved a copy to a folder on to the work computer so I can enjoy a read over my pie, chips and can of coke at lunch time.
Are you heading to the Pyranees next week. I thought that area would be almost in your back yard.

Love to Des - but we have a two day motocross race meeting that weekend and my son is right on edge of wining the championship. There is a small chance it will be cancelled/changed , and as you say its only just down the road.

Just make sure its diet coke , no salt on the chips and give the pie to the dog.

LOL re lunch.
I believe that a pie has about 1800kj, coke 500+ and don't know about the chips. Maybe I should just buy a packet of plain crinckle cut. At least the kj will be on the packet.

Good luck with the motorcross champs too.

I saw that article, not the full report, got better things to do.....
The media are saying that cancer is linked to obesity, without reading the report one has to wonder if the same things cause both or poor eating causes obesity and the obesity causes more cancer.....

Did you know there is a direct correlation between the level of heart disease and the number of televisions in the household?

see you at the pyrenees mr lexic

The TV thingo is a worry. Does that include computer screens as well? We have 3 TV's, 1 Desk top, 2 Laptops and my PDA.
Definitely see you at the Pyranees young Nic. (Better than old Nick isn't it)

Thanks for the post Robin.

When it comes to longevity, I want more of it - within reason that is. We all have to pass-on sometime.

Interesting, I have been doing some reading on the research by dr earl Mindell who has been saying fdor years how long we live is tied up with our diet. He has studied some of the longest lived people on earth to come to his conclusions.

Had a doctor friend give me summary of some similar findings a few years ago.
Reckons if he stopped eating everything you shouldn't, he would be dead in three weeks from starvation. :0)

Good reference though, most of us can be more careful with what we put in our mouths.

(Yes, thinking about it, I did spit out the petrol when I syphoned the tank last weekend.)

From my read, the four biggest factors BY FAR are:
Adult hight increase
Abdominal fatness
General body fatness
Alcohol consumption

The first is rare and beyond our control. The other three are very common and entirely within our control. Wonder how many of us will do anything about it?

There was a news item tonight relating to this report.

It seems if one wishes to avoid an increased chance of a heart attack, one should limit red meat intake to 500gm twice per week.

What a load of crap.

I'll just take two Cartia per day instead of one and continue to eat red meat.

Isn't it funny, we go on about obesity most days of the week but it is still OK for SOME chicken suppliers to load the chickens up on steroids and hormones which are also being linked to young girls "developing" very early (haven't seen anything on the effects to males... guess girls tend to eat more chicken) and it barely rates a mention every 6 months
