The frypan is simply used to contain the heatbeads and resulting coals.
I actually use a cast iron skillet I picked up from the local
camping store.
Place the heatbeads in the pan and light them.
When burning properly, put the heatbeads on a trivet, or cheap cake rack in the pan and place the
camp oven on top. The air underneath the rack stops the beads from being smothered.
Depending on what you are cooking, place more heatbeads on top and wait until the contents have cooked.
As a rule of thumb, the amount of heatbeads to use depends on the size of your
camp oven.
Mine is 12 inch diameter so I use 10 beads underneath and 14 beads on top. This is enough to
cook a decent sized roast which takes around two hours. No need to add more beads. Also good for a loaf of bread. (about a half hour)
The old electric frypan is a great idea if you are using at
home where you can't place the oven, etc. on the ground.
