It was raining yesterday in Sydney, bored I started to go through some of the photos that I had taken on this years trips.

The problem now is I can't wait to get back out there next year.

Fine today, so I will start to get ready for the Vic High Country trips coming up soon.

Gidday Wayne

How' it all going with you mate? Hope you got through the Simpson with your 'tribe' and you didnt need to use that 'Toyota" winch cable :-).. Enjoyed the beer and chat we had at Birdsville pub

When are you planning on doing your Victorian High Country Trip?

I spent about 3 hours last night working on a 'quick' trip over the Xmas break. Unfortunately I can ony get a few days off due to work commitments.

Was planning on leaving Wagga mid day 21st Dec and returning new years day

Kiwi Angler,

Always enjoy a drink at the Birdsville Pub, regardless who I drink with.:))

The tribe did enjoy the trip and there were no major problems.

The first of the VHC trip is in 2 weeks time, and from there at the end of December down the Snowy River.

Wayne, it looks like you should go to Photobucket and adjust the image size. It will help make the sandhill small enough to fit in at 600x800. There should be a menu option at the top of the pic.

Phil,

I have found that the Hay river part of the Simpson Desert to be "Cleaner" than the usual east/west crossing.

With the dunes being a bit smaller they do tend to be more photographic.

Hey John R,
Have you any idea how dull and boring it is in Adelaide on a Sunday night? All the best for the Pyrennees - some of those tracks would be interesting after a bit of rain :-))

Wayne,
Yeah, Its harder to find your way on the Hay because theres no toilet paper trail to follow :-)) Also I think the access fees keep the riff-raff and deadheads away. But I think the main part of the Simpson is pretty clean considering how many people travel it - around the July school hols might be different. If more people carry others rubbish out, it would be good.

Our preference is to do the Hay from the north - means that we are not on a schedule to be at Lindsays camp by a particular day.

The sand between the shotline and camp 16 is very loose, making it brilliant for desert photography. I think in about 2002 lightning strikes caused a very intense fire through that area. Many of the root systems were damaged, so regeneration has been slower than usual. When you cross the area from west to east (Madigan Line) you alternate through swales that have been burnt out and others that haven't and there's a huge difference. Similar occurrence in the Great Vic Desert west of Vokes Hill at the same time.

The dunes north of the shotline were difficult in early 2006 - caps of very loose sand on top of them all. I got my belly stuck on a couple that year.
