Hey John R,
Have you any idea how dull and boring it is in
Adelaide on a Sunday night? All the best for the Pyrennees - some of those tracks would be interesting after a bit of rain :-))
Wayne,
Yeah, Its harder to find your way on the
Hay because theres no
toilet paper trail to follow :-)) Also I think the access fees keep the riff-raff and deadheads away. But I think the main part of the Simpson is pretty clean considering how many people travel it - around the July school hols might be different. If more people carry others rubbish out, it would be good.
Our preference is to do the
Hay from the north - means that we are not on a schedule to be at Lindsays
camp by a particular day.
The sand between the
shotline and
camp 16 is very loose, making it brilliant for desert photography. I think in about 2002 lightning strikes caused a very intense fire through that area. Many of the root systems were damaged, so regeneration has been slower than usual. When you cross the area from west to east (
Madigan Line) you alternate through swales that have been burnt out and others that haven't and there's a huge difference. Similar occurrence in the Great Vic Desert west of Vokes
Hill at the same time.
The dunes north of the
shotline were difficult in early 2006 - caps of very loose sand on top of them all. I got my belly stuck on a couple that year.
