Flying down to
Kangaroo Island for 5 days, hiring a car & having a look around.
If any local members have some locations worth visiting, all the advice would be great. Taking all the camera gear as im hoping for some photo opportunities.
Thanks for the info
David

If you're looking for some closeup photos of sea lions, take a trip to Admiral's Arch within
Flinders Chase National Park. (south western tip of the Island)
The sea line colony is just fantastic. The boardwalk meanders down the
cliff and underneath
the Arch and traverses the resting area of the sea lions. It may be best during breading season (whenever that is) but hopefully you can witness (and take pictures of) the yougsters as they frolic around the rocks. I believe this is one of the largest colonies anywhere. The experience here is much better than the escorted trek at Seal Bay IMHO.
Nobody goes to
Kangaroo Island without visiting
Remarkable Rocks along the south coast either. Basically, if you travel along the south coast road you can access all the tourist features as you head to Flinders Chase. They are all easily accessable now as the main roads are blacktop.
You can then drive back at your liesure along the north coast road to see that area of the Island.
There is honey farms and marron farms and
Kelly Hill Caves to give you a good variety of Island culture. I suggest you obtain a tourist map of the Island to give you a perspective of where you are at any time.
Even though I used OziExplorer, you can actually print a good map on A3 sized paper from Ozi to a colour printer.
There is also a variety of tourist brochures available on the Island or from the SA Tourism Board.

I second the above. In June we stayed at the Lightkeepers Cottage at Cape De Coudic (there are four old cottages near the lighthouse) which is walking distance to
Admirals Arch, allowing youto see the seal colony AFTER all the tour buses have been and gone.
It's also a 5 minute drive to
Remarkable Rocks, which allows you to get there early because they are really only worth photographing when no-one is on them.
They are located at the far western and most remote end of the island so
services are limited. The Flinders Chase NP headquarters are 12 KM away.
No next G covereage at the cottages (no TV either!!!) although you can get reception at the top of the
hill behind the cottages.
If you have kids, I'd highly recommend "Pauls Place" (animal farm) which is quite unique and entertaining.
Cheers

A few goodies mentioned already:
*
Remarkable Rocks and Admiral's Arch
* Seal Bay
* Cape de Coudic Lighthouse
might I also suggest:
*
Vivonne Bay - wonderful place to stay with a beach voted the best in the world!!!
*
Hanson Bay
*
American River
*
Little Sahara - sometimes hardish to find, but between
Vivonne Bay and
Flinders Chase National Park
* Penguins at
Penneshaw
* Wineries - I recommend Sunset Winery near
Penneshaw
* Tea Tree Oil place
to name just a few. Does get windy this time of year, so getting up for dawn is usually the best time to get good wind-less shots.
Cheers
Andrew.
