it's a cooking device that you start the cooking off in the pan usually 10mins cooking then place into the thermal casing and it keeps on cooking while you are on the road or home and is ready to eat when your ready, stays hot for 8 hours. i have included their web site for you to see what i'm talking about (it might make more sense then). www.dreampot.com.au/

We recently bought this one from the USA - $113 delivered:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-5-5L-Stainless-Steel-Thermo-Thermal-Cookware-Pot_W0QQitemZ330185575681QQihZ014QQcategoryZ20631QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem

Works very well.

or there is a similar one as well (which wasn't advertised when I bought ours):

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/thermal-insulated-cook-pot_W0QQitemZ300154598882QQihZ020QQcategoryZ136177QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Neither comes with the second pot but we wouldn't use this anyway.

hi, i had seen the second one on ebay but not the American one. with the American one how long does it stay warm for as one part says 6hours and then it says 8 hours? it also says that actual cooking time is 10-30 mins after the boil, i'm not sure about the dream-pot but is that right and does it cook things through?
thanks from Chris.

Chris,

I gather that the actual time on the stove varies according to the food type. Between 10 and 30 minutes. My wife did corned beef the other week, about 20mins on the stove at around midday and when we ate at 6:30 the water was still too hot to touch (>70C at a guess). More telling was that the outside of the pot was just warm so the insulation was quite good. The beef was excellent.

The cookbook that comes with the dreampot would be good to have (I looked at it at the camping show). The one that came with the pot was in Chinese. Although many of the dishes shown have no western equivalent, there is a table that provides guidance on heating and holding times. I'm going to get a friend to translate it.

The Thermos brand version is (as Barbara says below) MUCH better quality than either the Dreampot or the one we have. BUT at three times the price we couldn't justify it.

The US seller offered a postage discount when I emailed him (USD69.99) so the total price at today's exchange rate would be around AUD$104. Delivery was within a week.

Ken,

You "Gottabjoken".

There is no comparison between a gas fired BBQ and the tasty delights of cooking and baking with the Cobb.

Shame on you!!!

Hey, I agree in principle,
but I use the gas bbq for convenience and speed.

I don't always want to spend an hour lighting the beads just to fry a steak. And I am not going to be roasting as often as grilling.

When it comes down to it, the Cobb can be a bugger to clean.

The bbq comes clean with a few paper towels or sheets of newspapaer which work well as firelighters afterwards.

Yup, I can't deny the Cobb certainly has its good points in flavour etc, but I am a slave to convenience these days.

Maybe when I slow down enough, the ol'timers will help me forget, each time I go to use it, the pain I will experience cleaning it afterwards.

But for now, once I've eaten and had a couple of glasses of SA red, I don't want to be bothered by my darling Joan reminding me I have to clean the Cobb....

These things are just a big thermos.

If you're just planning to do casserole style meals you'd do just as well to buy a couple of cheap 1L Vacuum Flasks (about $10 each), heat the tucker to boiling point in the morning, pour it into the flasks and it will be cooked and hot at the end of the day.
