I know we've all seen his photos of the incredible roasts he does on the Cobb, but we were lucky enough to try it last night! Awesome - roast lamb, beef and turkey - all melt in your mouth. I think Cobb should get him to write a cook book for them!

Cut it out Dian & Bill,

You are just trying to tempt me to get mine out again.
Maybe tomorrow night:-))

So, have you guys got your own Cobb???

I don't worry about a recipe!
Just fire it up, put the meat and vegetables and a few secret herbs in and an hour and a half later, the roast is ready.

The herbs are so secret, even I don't know what I put in:-))

Yes we've got the Cobb and its great but he's the Master of it!

I think we need to buy the good firelighters instead of cheap and cheerful too! Honestly though there was enough to feed a footie team - and Maz - Tom's wife made a superb salad to go with it - and then we had to force down fresh fruit salad, cheesecake and more drinks! Fanatastic night and great people.

I assume he used more than one Cobb to cook all that food.

I love the Cobb because of the miserly amount of fuel (Heat Beads®) required to obtain a consistent result, but when cooking for "the mob" I also employ the camp oven, also using Heat Beads®. a hunk of pork in one, Beef and/or lamb in the bigger camp oven and veggies in both.

The camp oven is also good for baking bread successfully. I haven't attempted bread in the Cobb.

Note the Heat Beads® brand I keep referring to. Wouldn't use anything else.

Whoa!

Just noticed the trademark symbol (c in a circle) does not translate on this new fangled incarnation of David's.

Sandman I agree WRT heat beads I use my camp oven inside the Webber BBQ and the quality of beads makes a huge difference. Also fire lighters some of them are absolute crap as well.

Hey Sandman, you'll not have any trouble with bread in your Cobb. My wife is celiac (Gluten intolerant) and I make her bread in our Cobb all the time.

Before the Cobb I used our camp oven and the only difference is the brown crust I used to get with coals on top of the camp oven as opposed to not so brown with the Cobb.

But the convenience of the Cobb wins hands down ... e.g.. next week we'll be on Fraser for 5 days where fires aren't allowed. Can still make her a loaf of fresh bread.

Cheers .... Geoff

I could go on about a secret recipe that has been handed down through the generations, but ...............

Orgran (Web Site) Brand "Gluten Free Alternative Grain Wholemeal Bread Mix". Just follow the directions and you can't go wrong.

They also make a "regular" bread mix, but she prefers the wholemeal one.
