Hi,

I intend heading up to the cape, leaveing next Saturday so would be leaving Cairns Sunday or Monday the 9 June. Does anyone know how much water etc is around the OTL? I don't have any idea if there has been much rain up there and whether access will be to hard. Another question is the condition of the road between Laura and Musgrave. One person told me the best bet is to by pass it by going through Lakefield and the road is extremely bad on the main drag. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks

Not long ago I contacted a hunting guide on the Cape and he said they'd had a very poor wet. In any case a bit of water shouldn't worry you too much. Just take the appropriate precautions and have fun. You could try contacting one of the 4WD tour guides in Cairns for info.

Hi Ray,

We are heading up there from Sydney early on the 7th intending to leave Mossman on Tues 10th. We're in a green Discovery and will be towing an Ultimate off road camper trailer so please look out for us and say Hi.

Mate, you'll have no problems this year, it's been a poor wet. The bypass through Lakefield is totally unnecesary unless you're actually going to camp there for a bit. It's a LONG bypass and not worth it, the road is fine. Happy motoring, sigh looks like I'll be staying in Mossman while you guys are off having fun.

There is road works going on north of Laura and South of Hann River, the worst section is from the art sites to Laura heaps of dust.

The OTL is the driest in years and still the best way up and back.
