Hi Guys and guyesses
Have just come home from a day trip to Blowering Dam and on the way had to go through some road works. I did notice a discarded spray can on the side of the road but at night, towing etc I didnt have time to avoid it and must have run it over
Well what a MESS!!!
I now have shocking pink hi vis paint down the side of the Nissan and the boat but worse of all over the boat cover.
Didnt know it had happened until I got home tonight so paint is well and truly dried
Anyone know of any TRIED AND TRUE ways of getting this off?
Don't want to use a solvent on the boat cover and also dont want to smear it into a bigger mess.
At tbis stage Ii would rather leave it to fade on its own if it meant causing either more damage or more mess.
Over to the herd to come up with some ideas, as we usually do :-)

Kiwiangler, try prepsol from any paint shop. I always use prepsol to remove any stains and never had a problem .Prepsol a small rag in one hand and then clean rag in the other hand to wipe off.
It also works on new tar from the road the alot better than thinners, as thinners will rip your paint off or ruin a leather cover ect.

cheers, Lance

You should be using kerosene not thinners on the tar problem. The kero actually will make your car shine too, I spray it out of a hand spray bottle, leave it for 3 mins of so and then wipe off the tar. Kero was used during the arly part of last century as a car polish.

Hard to 'prove' it was 'their' can - circumstantial ? - yes, probable ? - yes.

I reckon I would be on a hiding to nothing trying to get them to pay out on this one

Good Luck........
It is very unusual for a can of spray paint to be left on a road job in the first place. In particular where there is machinery. You were very unlucky Kiwi. It is a well known rule that all paint cans must be picked up if not empty and if they are empty then a hole is usually put in them by hitting them on the edge of a star picket. reason for this is to stop little vandals painting machinery with a stray can left on the ground.
As for taking pics and sending them to the main contractor groove?
Who (Which Subbie) left the can there in the first place? Was it the Project manager, engineer, foreman, surveyor, drainer, telstra, optus, grader driver or a labourer etc?
Having said that it may be possible to write a letter to the contractor expressing your concerns and if nothing else it would be adressed at the next toolbox so hopefully it wont happen again.

If its not too far away then the can wouldve sprayed onto the road too and a pic of this with your car beside would be a clincher I reckon.

You look at things too logically, why not paint the rest of the nissan pink, you'll never lose it in the coles carpark and no more issues with running over hi vis paint, unless its green ;)

Otherwise I cant offer any constructive feedback, I reckon I would be pretty bleep off it happened to myself.

Kiwi angler,

I had a new thought, its great when the brain is not running on ethanol,,,

When working as a service tech in the dive industry, I used to use silicon spray to get off paint pen off of dive tanks etc. Smudged it a bit at first, then use a second rag to take off the remainder. It may just work, you could try a small inconspicuous spot to see. This used to do damage to the paint of scuba cylinders and the likes.

KiwiAngler,

A few years back black paint appeared on the side of Belinda's car.

The vehicle was not worth a respray but I used Tea Tree Oil and that removed the paint with out marking the vehicle.

Or as per another reply what is wrong with a pink Nissan. I would know who it belonged to instead of having to ask at the Birdsville Pub. :-))

would you have asked who owned the PINK 4x4 parked outside?? - now remember you ARE in the Birdsville pub now, where men are men not some inner city trendy club in Sydney :-) :-)

Don't touch it, photograph the damage and go to the highest person you can in the organisation who has engaged the services of the contractor.

Make it perfectly clear you wont go away if they ignore you.

It will be covered by their insurance and the work will be done by a reputable spray shop.
