ITs only 2 weeks to go when we start how holiday, traveling from Perth to Qld,Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne andAdelaide then back home. The question I have is by the time I get to Qld my new motor in my 80 series will be due for its 5000 k warrenty service, I need a good reputable place that can service the motor for me, I try to stay away from Toyota places as they charge double for the same service using the same parts , well they do here in Perth anyhow, not to sure about anywhere else.

Queensland is quite a large state. You could be anywhere.

Any large country town with an accredited Toyota workshop should be able to help you.

With Rudd in power, Queenslanders are taking over the whole country.

At least I don't have to pay for another laptop. My middle son is dyslexic and needs a laptop for school work, or a least access to school computer, which the school does not have, and won't supply looks like we might get two free ones...one for the oldest and one for the middle one.

And yes we have already brought two laptops( one broke down in the middle of the year) for the middle kid, but because the school is running old versions of office, it means his laptop which runs new office won't communicate with the school one, so it was waste of money....public school, next year ( first year high), he is going private, smaller classes and more computers. Spoke to heap of parents at uniform day the other day at the private school, they have the same situation, dyslexic kids and public schools can not give them computer time to do their work. Which is what they need to help them.

17 Days till we leave on Cody's Australian History Class of 2007....going to teach him about early days of Australia...dyslexic kids have to learn by doing, not by reading.

Just curiosity – do you honestly believe that computer and Internet is proper substitute for books and libraries? Being in computer industry for more then 25 years I can assure you that this is not nearly the case. Labor pre-election campaign promising “word-class” broadband to Australia and laptops to school just make me laugh. I recon we have more important problem to deal with.
And in my professional opinion current speed is more then adequate - I don’t have any problems whatsoever to support my remote clients (some overseas) over internet. We have to blame web-designers for slow response – they throw to much “cool” and “fun” sh1t to our screens in such extend that even broadband cannot cope. Some sites does not work fast? Just do not use them!

If you have a dyslexic kid computers, Internet and all that go with are essential to their learning processes.

My son is dyslexic, dysgraphic and dyscalulic, which means he can't learn from reading, writing or doing maths in a book. if he was hitting teachers and generally being a really bad kid, we would get help. But because he sits at the back of class, and behaves himself we get nothing and will do anything for anyone, ADHD kids at least get a disability payment ( about $30 a week), we have spent thousands on computer programs, computers and stuff, just so he can learn. We can afford it, but other dyslexic kids parent's can't. Just to get him tested for dyslexia was $1000, with no rebate from health insurance, not even medicare. When we tested, we told that most of the ADHD kids have misdiagnosed as ADHD, when actually they can't read or write.

And believe me smart kids don't get any help either, got two of those as well, the oldest has not learnt one thing since the OBE system came in and that was year 5, he goes into year 10 next year.

The main reason for a trip to Tassie, is teach them about Eyre, and a bit of Australian history, which they don't get taught by the way, basically he learns by doing, not by reading about it. The computer is essential.

Sorry to hear about your son. However to be able to use computer one still need to read and type. And while special computer program *MAY* helps unfortunate kids as your son, in general they do more harm then of use, as least as things going on now.

Remember time when calculators became widespread? Great invention, no doubts, but their wide usage in school in early stages lead to situation when many kids after finishing school can not even add two numbers on piece of paper! Furthermore, they do not have “sense of number” and easy can “solve” problem in such a way that say car travels with speed of sound.

Now with computers they will not be able to write and spell at all. Instead they master to download music and other “stuff” beyond any of your imagination. And they already developed most stupid language for SMS and MSN

In my opinion calculators has to be introduced no earlier then year 10 and computers as far as uni.

he can't write or spell at all, maths is non-existent...last time he was tested in 2006, without his computer...year one level, he is year seven this year. He has been taught to type and has a peer tester, who marks all of his work *before* he hands in. In office there is tool where the teacher can see what the peer has typed and what Cody has typed. The school has got the report from the place where he was tested, and they have not followed it up and implemented a program for him. They have not got time...they tell me Funny thing is last year they won a federal government award for literacy...Cody was also *not* allowed to sit the Literacy and Numeracy test, that let them win that award...don't want to whole school to fail, because of one kid and miss out on several thousand dollars worth prizes.

My oldest is completely different, his dad taught him first do the maths problem on the paper, then do it on calculator. He is doing TEE maths in year nine, but unfortunately when he goes to do the TEE maths, in year 12, he won't want to do...again....so he sits and mutates because he *has* to be there, but they can not accommodate him. Believe I have both ends, one kid who is failing and another he knows he good, but refuses to do any school work, because he already has already done it in primary school, because the same primary school as Cody goes to accelerated his learning and now he is bored.

cmon now........
Dyslexias just a word. Somethings may not be as easy to learn but it just takes longer and more effort and not necc just from the school or government or laptops but by parents and external help
and yes I am talking from personall experience

I think computer calculators and all technology that does dumb people down is not necessarily evil i think it is just a sign of this brave new world that we are living in and that if we wish to support our children we should encourage them even if we don't agree with the use of such techno thingis ....... unfortunately i think u r showing ur age serg! If the younger generation only has to worry more about ipods and global warming and high speed internet then it sounds pretty good! Could be alot worse than having to use a calculator and watching movies rather than adding on paper and reading books! Which would you rather do ! Work smarter not harder i always say!

When it came to studying something (actually hardest job to do!) in my strong opinion is harder, not smarter brings more dividends to you in the future. Remember old wisdom -easy came – easy go.
I am not against computers (would be ridiculous after spending all my working life to stuff them!), but against abusing computers in study process.

Give my local mechanic a ring.
Nick at Moorooka Automotive.
07 3892 1153 (Gee, it is bad when you know the number of your mechanic off by heart!)
Been using him for 20 years.
He runs a hilux now, but has owned jackeroos and pajeros.
His son Ian runs the place with him, and runs a patrol in local comps.
They know their 4wds.

Just off Ipswich Rd, about 8km south of the centre of Brisbane.
6 Kensel St., Moorooka Automotive is 2nd on the left.
Moorooka Yamaha on the corner.
If you have your own oil, he will use that too.

Tell him that john in the red pajero sent you.

They also did the warranty service for me on both of my pajeros when new. Now we have our own service routine, in other words tell him what wants doing, and he will do it, and keep an eye out for any problems. Has called me under the hoist a couple of times when I was there to show me something.

Give Terry Sommers at Southport a try as he is honest and doesn't beat around the bush.

If he is busy try Donnelly's just down the road from him in Southport.
They also have an engineering business in the same building.

They are both near Zupps in Southport.

Enjoy your trip.

Agree! The Brindle creek area is just great.

However, remember some stupid govt turned this into a toll road. $6-7 a vehicle I think.
