Just caught the tail end on the news tonight.
It happened on the North Coast of NSW in the forest.

4WD's went berserk in the bush, they wrecked gates, just ripped them off that blocked tracks to vehicle access and where concrete posts had been put in the middle of walking tracks so as to stop 4WD's, they were nearly demolished or broken. These also were in swamp areas. They were put there so as to try and help the swamp area and tracks to recover, only to show tyre tracks where they dug it all up for fun.

You could see the damage in the water and swamp areas.
Thousands of $$$$$'s damage and a lot of bad publicity.

It is idiots like this that are causing problems for the genuine tourist / weekender or some that enjoy the bush.

No wonder camping fees are rising with these goings on.

It looked like the Wauchope / Oxley HWY to Walcha / Taree / Kempsey type of area.

They did say but I just missed the actual headlines for it.

But the did say North Coast NSW.

It might come up again on the late news.

Did you see that cop doing dounuts in the cop commodore a couple of nights ago on TV? I wasn't very happy as I drive a Commodore and it gives a bad name to Commodore drivers ;-))

That's a silly response.

The reason places get locked up is because of clowns like the ones on the box.

All the best

I agree Eric,
watching it on the news it was horrendous the damage they caused.
Will takes weeks to fix the gates and concrete posts, and years for the damage to the forest and creek / swamp areas to recover.

They did also mention of fish being killed in the creek / swamp areas also.

They did mention that there is a $250.000.00 fine if caught, so I hope if caught they hit them with the lot.

We will finish up with nothing if this carries on.
It is hard enough now getting in some forests and trying to tell the Rangers that you are the genuine 4WD'er and not out to give them a bad name.
Cheers

Not the first copper to hoon in a cop car....but the first to have it put on youtube.

Don't know if you have been following this story...but the town is going into bat for copper and his wife....who is also a copper and also in the car at the time...the town reckons he is" community minded" and that he should not be facing the sack, and he was doing a genuine demonstration, of how to do circle work in a paddock no doubt....just because it was a police car, and he had lights and siren going...well that just happened.....

Lesson learned for coppers, don't hoon in marked car....unmarked car is fine though....

Debbie < who once found a copper bogged to axles in a out of the way place...in town car....he was...looking for someone....he claimed.....don't even what to know how he got out that one...but we did see his someone....she was walking back...and rather disheveled....is the way we saw it...wonder what was going on in that car...or I rather not know....very funny though...things you see when you a riding a horse.

Leroy,

The question ws about some boofheads in 4WD's in maybe NSW...not some COP having a good time in W.A. and keeping good with the locals.

Gees mate, get your priorities right old son. Or.......wait a minute....was your posting a joke. Gees....really :)

Lighten up Eric. Did you see the ' ;-) ' at the end of my sentence? I'm all too aware of track closures way down south here and certainly don't condone the behavior of the 4wd driver.
The cop on the other hand......

I have to agree that there is a small minority of 4WDrivers that are really giving the rest of us a bad name BUT...

this is exactly what's going to happen when more and more tracks and areas are being closed by the authorities.

Where else will 4WD's be able to go when all the legal areas are then closed off?? We're going to move into areas that we shouldn't really be in.

Don't blame the 4WDrivers, blame the mongrols that are closing tracks and off road areas.

If we have more legal off road areas around the country then you'll find much less damage to areas under rehab or other private property.

We had a similiar thing on Sydney TV a couple of months ago. It was not hoons this time but 4WDs in general. The story showed a few modified 4 wheelers slipping and sliding on a track that had become impassible to anything other than vehicles with lift kits and large diameter tyres. It did not look good.

I think another thing that is not helping our image is some of the DVDs attached to magazines. The raised vehicles, big wheels, agressive muddies, locked diffs etc combined with plenty of mud action must look like little more than an exercise in track destruction to the polies, greenies and general public.

I just hope we don't push things too far particularly at a time when we could end up with the bald headed stompy wompy real gone rocker boy as the Federal Environment Minister.

This incident on the North Coast could be a good opportunity for the local 4WD clubs to immediately band together and attempt to counteract some of the bad publicity by repairing as much of the damage as possible. The media, local members and local government authorities should be invited to to see what they are doing and have explained to them explain what normal family club four wheel driving, tag along tours etc is all about.

Damn good idea about getting in and getting something done toward fixing it. I would volunteer to help, but it's a fair way from my place.
