Picked it up yesterday. Got it home safely. Now if only I can figure out how to start it. There's no key, just a push button and you need to have the hand brake on, foot on the foot brake, tongue in the left corner of your mouth.....

Leaving the key thingy in my pocket and getting into the car and starting it without a key in my hand is very strange indeed.

More soon.

Nice to have such a new beast Gone Bush.

Its the same system as a new Kluger we had for a test for a while recently and when we had a small emergency in which you can easily forget things , well my wife couldn't actually get the car moving when it was needed.

Glad I'm not into the bank robbery business - I'd never get away in time.

(P.S. Love to know the Ramp travel index on a 200 series)

It would have to be the Diesel, So he could do his own comparo between the 2 new V8's. Single Turbo Vs the Twin Turbo.

Cheers Kev

200 series are far too expensive, delicate and dainty to get dirty. Better to run the kids to the private schools [ read snob factories on the north shore of Sydney]

Delicate and Dainty compared to what?

a 70 Series, yes
a 4.2 GQ Yes

a 3l GU with alfoil panels, not really.

Have you closely checked out or driven a 200 Steve?

they were all new once.
How many have bought a brand new 4wd and taken it out hard core off-road straight away?
Quite a few probably want you to think they do, but in reality????

I did, drove from the dealer to ARB for suspension and bar, less than 400 km for the first major off road trip.

It's good to get that first scratch out of the way early so you don't have time to think about it.

It's a lot like jumping into a cold beach. Just run at it. Otherwise you avoid the inevitable for ages.

possibly a 4wd training course would help improve your technique and avoid those "beginners" glitches when buying your first 4wd?

getting scratches implies that you have damaged some flora/fauna in the process?

Yes probably true. The Blackberry "flora" is pertty bad across the tracks in the southern High Country.

Too bad I have to wreck that endangered native species. Ha.

Might have to do some replanting based you your expertise and advise hey.

Oops I posted this below in the wrong place doh.

Anyway.

All for entertainment fisho..

My point though, is that for ME a reliable, economical LC with creature comforts is the best fit. I need something with space for towing, touring and camping with moderate to reasonably hard off road work. The 200 has problems like all vehicles. The 2 main problems as it relates to this thread are that it is brand new ( and without scratches ) and that it ain't the cheapest girl on the block, but neither of those were show stopers for me. My point was ( although I don't love it), the thing will get scratches if I continue to go to the areas where I have been going for the last 30 years so that's something I have to live with. A $30000 Nissan Patrol GU will get exactly as many scratches.

I intend to keep this thing for a long time so resale value value doesn't worry me either.

I got my first 4wd, a series 3 Landrover in 1977 and have been there done that. As to it being a show pony, only if I wanted it to be. Showing off is not really my style, Personally I generally don't give a sh1t what other people think. I had to have a show pony, it wouldn't be a Toyota.

At ya ;-)

G'day Pesty. You know whenever I tell my friends about the benefits of being an EO member I tell them the story about jumping out of the Cruiser in the main st of Clare and being greeted by you saying: "Hi Gone Bush. I'm Pesty".

I know that under my breath I was saying "yes you are" (lol) but that was excellent.

Meeting Ruth and Ian in Birdsville, and Willem and Uncle as well.

All wonderful stuff.

The 200 will have a soft life initially but the first accessory that went on it was an EO sticker.

Gotta love it.

G'day Gone Bush,

Congrats on the new purchase.....hope you soon work out how to start it...(could get interesting doing a steep uphill stall recovery with all those prerequisites to get it re-started...)

As for what you just said about Pesty...... Quote: "I know that under my breath I was saying "yes you are"....." You were far too polite; we just say it to his face..... hahaha

i think you will find the economy figures are done under controlled conditions which gives a relative figure for comparison. it cannot possibly relate exactly to every single one of the 5000 odd buyers a month.
Its for comparison.

Congrats on the new acquisition.

According to the advertisment here on EO its the Worlds best 4x4
Hope it lives up to its name but I can't see why not, as it would seem to be light years ahead of the opposition.

My ole GQ has a push button start as well. It takes some getting used to :-)

Cheers

No you probably wouldn't. It iis Mark and I was a member of the 4wd Club of WA until I sold the 60 series (still miss it) and I was on the 4wd Gathering Commitee. Remember when u arrived at Mt Augustus and the heat hit u like a brick wall. I think that u had the 80 series then.

Regards

Mark

PS. Are you going to Deb's 50th?
