QLD Kev & Darkie
First there was Stan who recently died, now it is John Laws. John is retiring as of completion of his show on Friday (yes tomorrow).
Next to go will be Alan Jones as he is going to be coaching the Wallabies :)).
Australian Radio Talk Back is going to die out.
Who is out there that is going to take over from these three??
Cheers Kev

ABC for me in the mornings...Nick Reinberger then its the Conversation hour at 11am with Richard Vidler......great stories from people.
Macca on a sunday morning if we're in the car!
Even better....101.1 down this way when your sick of all that talkin' and you get country music all day long with a cumputer animated voice telling the time. Problem is, the station atarted nearly 8 yrs ago and the CD's havent changed, nor the song order.....kinda sad when you can pick what comes next!

Laws was on at 4am Monday morning and was still plugging Toyota ;)) He never lets up on a faithful contributor to his bank account. Toyota will surely go backwards now he won't be plugging them so hard.

National Radio?
All those listed are just eastern seaboard hacks. Luckily, we don't have to put up with that drivel in the West.
Fran Kelly, breakfasts on Radio National. Can't beat her.
Tho must admit, ABC's local radio in the West still has the state's most popular presenter in the mornings; Eoin Cameron. How's that; ex-Liberal pollie working for Auntie?

Hate to tell you Gerry - good old Fran is an Eastern Seaboard hack too! I listen to her tone of excitement at the affairs of the day 6 am every day here in
Sydney - or where ever we are. And we hear her two hours before you do. LOL.
I must admit to a distinct liking for Eoin Cameron during a few months in the west a couple of years back. He's a bit like Macca but grown up! I even read one of his books while I was there.
Great that we have choices isn't it - there are lots I choose not to listen to.
Happy listening
Max

Hi Max, yes, I appreciate that Fran is an "Eastern-Stater". Just shows that we're not parochial over here :-)
And I wouldn't call her a "hack", just a very professional commentator.
And it is true national radio.
Macca gets some great people on his show, but I really think he'd be more at
home at CWA meeting! Sadly, his dithering manner almost makes me want to commit hari kari!
Now if only Eoin wouldn't play those James Last recordings just before the 6am news.....
cheers, Gerry

Gerry
Fully agree - Fran is no hack - I should have put it in inverted commas.
Her record as a foreign correspondent in all sorts of hazardous
places, then I think fronting one of the radio news programmes (PM perhaps?) and a heap of other roles, makes her a true professional broadcaster. Radio National covers a wide range of topics, some I don't care for but it gives a voice to many stories and opinions that would not sell advertising.
There are three of that listen to Fran at least!
Cheers
Max

Trouble with listening to ABC Radio talkback is, that as soon as somebody disagrees with the presenters opinion .... they get cut off.
Also they are so far left of centre it's sickening!

"Trouble with listening to ABC Radio is, that as soon as somebody disagrees with the presenters opinion .... they get cut off."
The very few times I have been trapped and couldn't escape the mellifluous tones of the Golden Tonsils I got the distinct impression that those who opposed Laws' view got pretty short shrift. The ABC let people rabbit on to the point of tedium .... talk back radio is the ultimate in boredom IMHO.

Shaker, they don't usually let you get on air if you have a differing opinion. They just leave you on hold until the subject lapses or you get sick of holding. ABC producers have let that out too after one had left a little time back. Hence the directional support on some issues.

I load up on podcasts from the abc where ever I can. Its a bit difficult out in the sticks but some of the telecentres are not too bad. Slow and a bit expensive but I got this uncontrollable habit that needs feeding
I listened a bit to laws twice. Each time he started the show with a stooge who rang in and stirred up all the rednecks with a story about muslims and single parents. They didnt leave much in the barrel.
I listen to macka sometimes when I want a good laugh. It's like having a moron in the family that you can bring out from time to time and lock them back in the cupboard when you have visitors.
Dont be offended. I'm not.
