G'day,
just had a beaut two nighter in Abercrombie NP. The weather on Friday was a bit dodgy and it got much worse as I left
Black Springs for
Arkstone Rd....but dammit I'm not going to turn around now!
Anyway, by the time I got to the fire trail, we had a purple patch which continued until a small bit of rain early Sun morning.
I took just three of my kids this time (eldest at a campover party) and we set up at a place near the Sink on the Retreat River. The river, was running cappucino style but there were enough spots for the younger ones to stay safe under supervision.
This really is a beautiful bit of bush, close to the Gurnang which I love so much. We had our own wood so a good fire on Friday night and the next day just swimming or sitting by the river (which rose 20 cm overnight) reading and watching the sprogs. Mate turned up around 1600 by which time I had the leg of lamb on. We yarned
well into the night and kicked back deep into the comfort zone.
Sun morning was a leisurely departure at 1000. Rather than potter over to
the Beach, I wanted to explore the Felled Timber trail and Licking Hole yards. I had the trailer but some Parkies had told me I could head out Felled Timber way to the other exit, which of course was Brass Walls.
Anyway, we found the (very) old yards at Licking Hole had been partly crushed by a tree fall, but a beaut spot down there by the
creek, that was barely flowing. We stopped for lunch on the Middle Trail and then headed for the Link Rd. The juction at the start of the Link Rd to Brass Walls had a no thru to the left The right stated "no trailers past this point" Did the Parkies mean I could get through the private property via the no thru? Oh
well, right it is. I swapped to tail end Charlie so mate could reccie and off we went. Safely made it to the
cattle grid, just taking it slowly and carefully, the good rain was two days ago. Have to say though, those Prodigy controllers are one good bit of gear.
Anyway, needed to get home at a respectable time so for once I took the tar home rather than picking my way through to Mt Werong thereabouts.
What a beaut weekend. Coming up the driveway, like crossing some light beam trigger, my youngest said "can we watch a video?" but I was glad to hear my boy chip in "what? we've just come out of the bush and you want to watch a video?"
