TELSTRA misled consumers in newspaper and TV advertisements about the coverage of its much trumpeted third-generation mobile phone network, a judge has ruled.

Maybe so...............but if you live in a less settled area (ie:not in a capital city or large country town with a
Population>30000) there are very few options AND they still have better coverage than any of the competitors.
Not defending Telstra, just pointing out a fact.

Does this mean that Telstra have not got the government go ahead to close down CDMA on Jan 28 2008 ?

From
Sydney Morning Herald:
Goldman Sachs JBWere said last night that the case could delay the closure next month of the CDMA network - a suggestion Telstra rejected. The CDMA closure has concerned rural customers, who worry that the Next G network may be inferior.

Just recieved a text from Telstra that they are closing down CDMA 28/01/08. Still a bit premature going by reception between the 2 systems at the moment but they may need to close one to get the full benifit of the other.

During the past 9 months we have travelled over probably 2/3rd of Oz in cities, suburbs and the far outback, in WA, SA, NSW, QLD and NT.
Bill has a Next G mobile, I have a CDMA mobile and wireless CDMA card for the laptop.
In every case where the Next G has coverage so does the CDMA, but also in many areas that the Next G doesn't - this has been without exception. So how can it be a better service?
I'm hanging on to the CDMA until the bitter end as can't see how they can prove it is a better service.

i am still totally confused about changing from cdma to next g, i'm thinking about going with optus until its sorted. the wife is with optus so it could be good having the two phones with them.
every time i read a thread or listen to the radio its all about the crap service, crap phones or no signal for the next G. that telstra has.
i did with out cdma for years before i changed over and i think i mite do without it again until its all sorted.

No - not absent - just havent had time to read the
forum yet!
My NextG PDA still works better than my CDMA...
YES - some
places CDMA worked it doesnt but there are
places the NextG works that CDMA never existed.
When you look at Aust wide NextG coverage at 1 year from launch vs Aust wide CDMA coverage at 1 year from launch there is NO comparison - give them a go - yes the advertising was dodgy, they aint the only company to ever be guilt of that! LOL!
