Hi, I was v.surprised to find NRMA has stopped this service. I know i've been away awhile but sheese!

Can anyone recomend an alternative?

I'm looking for a 10yr old Cruiser or Patrol diesel, so is there a 4wd specialised inspector/ion?

Thanks,

Slammin.

As we have become one of the most litigious societies on the planet, I am not surprised that NRMA have stopped these inspections.

They do Truckster but as I found out to my disappointment, they tend to be a superficial job looking at the cosmetic stuff rather than the things that count. I had them go over the GU I bought last year and they missed the fact that the brake pads needed replacing (front pad wear indicators were worn off) and that the outlet manifold gasket was leaking. They even gave it a roadworthy certificate for rego transfer!! Car looked great tho!!!!

Mick

(PS. They very hurriedly paid for the brake pad replacement once I complained)

I would go to a reputable 4wd mechanic. Ring around to see who does inspections. Forget about the racv, raa type inspections on 4wds for the previously mentioned reasons.

If the mechanic does a good job on the inspection, then he will get your business next time you need the fourby serviced, won't he?

Thanks for the replies.

I'll give a call to State Road. The website says he'san ex RTA inspector.

FWIW they also do warranty inspections.

I'll have a look at $wd - (funny typo!! so I'll leave it - kind of sums it up.) - mechanics too see what I can find.

I'm not sure it's the litigious issues that are the cause of the inspections being pulled but I guess more likely a lack of staff. When i did my last one it was a weeks wait and that was 10 years ago.....

Thanks for your help,

Slammin.

NRMA couldnt inspect a rice cracker in a tea cup, they stuffed my daewoo lanos up by there cheap repair idea's by the name of "Competitive Partnering". take it to your local mechanic, don't bother with jax or other tyre mechanical places, hearing stuff from trades people i know that are in the game.

eg and old lady went into a local tyre place to have tyres done and they said she needed new shocks all round, well the old lady had vehicle serviced two weeks to a month before and the shocks where replaced all round, so she told said company no it's alright will get them next time, got home and rang the mechanic that did the job he asked her to come round and checked to see if shocks had failed, NOPE no shock failure, so be very wary but trust your mechanic that you got to or go to a couple.
