I know this is a
forum about travelling and cars and stuff but we do talk about phones a fair bit too.
6 month ago I got a ZTE phone of Telstra and it has a stuffed screen now. I have spoken to 6 different people this morning and nobody shows any interest and just sends me to talk to somebody else. I'm sick of it. I run a business myself and would never do that to my customers.
I'm going to a Telstra
shop today and if they try to send me away without helping me I will spit the dummy big time.
What is wrong with that lot?

The way Telstra treats it customers is different to say the least, reminds me of a dictatorship.
Glad I am not a shareholder.
You just got to love em

If your fridge / washingmachine / car fails, and you can't get by without it, does the seller give you a loaner for free ???????

Actually , when the swmbo puts her new car in for a service she does get a loaner for the day , but when her phone e--fed up she had to enter a new contract to get a new phone !!

completly a totally different situation - you get charged a monthly fee for your plan - the phone is a telstra phone but yet they tell you to send it of to wherever and there still going to charge you each month for their product which you dont have??

We are long term Telstra customers and are on the 3G network. Early this year we changed from CDMA to the 3G ZTE phone. We then left on a trip to
Darwin and back to
Perth. During the trip we found the ZTE phone next to Useless in terms of distance compared with the old CDMA. We got home and rang Telstra and told them of our problem in a polite and friendly manner. Within a couple of days we had a new Samsung delivered to our door free of charge, only had to renew our 2 yr contract at no cost. We have since been on a couple of remote trips and are happy with the new phone coverage. After our original discussion with the Telstra person he made the comment that it was a pleasure to deal with someone who was not abusive. So therein may be a reason for a lack of cooperation between Telstra and its customers. I am pointing no fingers here but have been in business and know how ignorant some people can be. Just my thoughts anyway.
Regards Nav.

I am always polite creaming gets you nowhere because in most cases the people you talk to have to live by rules and ways to deal with problems if they like it or not. I do understand too things go wrong but it still depends on how they deal with it. I sell camper trailers and we have problems too but I fix it and I don't let anybody hang either. In the end every customer walks away problem solved.
In business if you want somebodies money you have to deliver some sort of a service.
After this I will cancel my contract and pay whatever fee needs paying and go to the other mob. I know they will be as painful I assume but no more money going to testra from here.
No wonder they tread as like $hit if we don't do something about it.

What model ZTE is it? I've been looking at the ZTE 158 (Ruggidized Tradey) and the ZTE 165 (Rural Phone).
Any comments on those.

I'm not in the mood to praise Telstra !
I got the email saying I'd reached my Bigpond monthly 10GB limit and would be limited to 64kbps.
I phoned Tech support to complain that the ONLY webpage that wasn't working was the Telstra Webmail page - they told me I'd reached my 10GB limit.
Both times they could have really impressed me with Telstra's attitude to customers, by telling me I could upgrade FOR FREE to a new contract with a 12GB limit at the same monthly charge.
No doubt they were hoping I'd update to a more expensive plan - no way - I'll be looking at plans from competitors after that little trick !

I know what you mean....
You've got to keep an eye out for the cheaper plans when they become available, particularly for data. Telstra won't tell you when a plan becomes available for the same (or cheaper) price, but with a higher download limit.
I've been caught twice now - maybe I'm a slow learner lol.

They are actually not allowed to change your plan on your behalf if you can get better for same or less BY LAW - you have to request it
Blame the ACCC for that pearl of wisdom!

Stupid isnt it? ACCC has a lot to answer for
Same as ACCC telling printer manufacturers that they cant say "you must use our ink becuase other ink may damage your printer"
So the cheap ink guy churn out crap ink, stuff up peoples printers, and when they customer complains - the ink mob says "prove it was our ink"
Who's gonna spend thousands of $$$ getting chemical analysis of the ink blocking your heads to prove that?
NOBODY! Hence consumer loses because printer manufacturer is prohibited BY LAW from telling the punters?!?!?!?

Printers are cheap because the manufacturers make their money selling you ink cartridges at inflated prices.
Yes the cheap crap can stuff up printers. I used the cheap crap and eventually my printer stuffed up. It was about 5 years old and I had saved enough money over that period of time that I could have bought 10 new printers.

Correct - some people are lucky - others get ripped off by the aftermarket ink scam - its pot luck :-)
All i can say is that I have never seen a brand name printer stuff up from ink related issues while using 100% genuine ink but have seen *plenty* of stuffed printers from aftermarket ink - but thats just my expereince.
BTW if you reckon the genuine ink is a money maker - aftermarket is worse.
as an example - genuine Epson ink that retails at $30 (with a 10-15% margin for the seller) can be bought as a generic for $0.60 and sold for $20 - bargin for the consumer and money "printing" machine for the
shop - with ACCC protection! LOL

I have an Epson printer. The ink cartridges retail for between $20 - $25 each. It takes six.
The non-genuine cartridges I bought cost $8.95 each. A saving of over $76 per set. As the printer costs $149 it does not take long to save more than what the printer is worth. I purchased my cartridges from TEG Computers.
I had no problems with them and the problem with my computer was as much due to the high usage over the five years as anything else.
My son-in-law bought one non-genuine set of cartidges and that stuffed up his identical printer. They were different to the cartridges I was using.
As you say "its pot luck".

yup!
Ive even seen SAME brand of carts in Identical printers - one went fo r many months the other went for minutes....and when they approached cart manufacturer about their "replacement guarantee" they got the "prove it" argument!
Enough to say - that person didnt have a very good "non genuine" experience! :-)

ZTE 165 here also, with a car kit. So far, as good as my old CDMA, I'll know more after a few trips over Christmas.

One of the advantages of buying a "brand name" phone is the extra level of support you get.
Telstra are just resellers of various phone hardware.
If you buy a Panasonic phone you go to Panasonic for repair.
If you buy a Uniden phone you go to Uniden for repair.
I have Nokia mobiles because there is a Nokia Care Centre in each capital city. Expert support of their product is readily at hand.
ZTE......what the?

Put your complaint to the Telecommunications Ombudsman. At least they have to report to the Govt on how many complaints they are getting about each carrier.
Put your complaint to your local Fed Govt member - get the bast**d working, that's what we pay them for.
Put your complaint in writing to Telstra and keep doing it. I bet that they work on a theory that only 1 in 10 will complain and even less will be persistent. Just hammer them and until you get what you want.
Write to your local newspaper - no-one wants bad publicity out in the public domain.
The more of us that complain and keep going the likely you are to get a result. Remember that guy who took on Hardies and kept fighting - he got a result and didn't give up.
by complaining here it is not going to get anything done, other than let a select few know of the problem.
Karl
