Hi Just wondering if there is a better method of cleaning the gas jet in my lantern. I have unscrewed it from the lamp and soaked it in metho for half hour before trying to blow the metho through the hole.(This works great on my gas fridge!) Refitted the gas jet to lantern but it still burns very weakly whether I attach it directly to the bottle or on its usual position on top of a pole. I replaced the jet new only 18mths ago after similar problems. Any ideas out there? Would love to fix this problem ASAP or the whole lantern will be replaced in frustration!!

Have to agree with Wayne. (Replace the lantern in frustration)
I had no problem with blocked jets on the gas lantern, just a string of broken mantles.
Ditched the gas light for a decent 12 volt light and haven't missed the lantern at all. In fact I loved the improvement so much I now have three 12 volt lights I use for different purposes.
Now, the stove was another problem. On that I did experience blocked jets and although cleaning them, (including blowing them out with compressed air) decided that the same problem was going to re-occur.
So I ditched the old stove as
well and replaced it with a low pressure two burner Coleman stove which doesn't have jets.
Now I'm a happy chappy.

Sandman
Have you tried dropping the blocked jet into boiling water for 5 minutes ? Works a treat !
That was shown to me by a bloke from a Camping
Shop.
Works a treat .
We have gas this and gas that, and dust getting in the jets is a real problem, hence we are changing to all Low Pressure Gas, and then nothing blocks up ( I hope )
Cheers

Bucky,
No didn't try that.
I dropped the whole lantern in the back of the shed and changed over to 12 volt fluro/LED.
Great light output, minimal current draw and best of all, no one can burn themselves on the light. Excellent for those with
young kiddies.

Don't poke anything through the jets as they have very fine gauze mesh in the back of them to diffuse the gas.
The best way to clean them is boil them in water for a few minutes and then blow them gently dry.
I'm like the others ditched the gas lantern years ago now use a 12v CFL globe in a peanut butter jar, heaps of light for very low current draw.

Yep, I've boiled my jets in my stove and it cleans them nicely. I also keep a couple of spares anyway. but the boiling seems to work every time.
