Hi,
I guess I am not alone, waiting, still waiting, still waiting, still waiting, still waiting, still waiting. for the said product ordered on Sept 20 2007.
I have been told by Garmin in Sydney they had an "Unlock issue" that would be resolved "Soon" That was back in mid October. I am still waiting for delivery of this disc as we speak.

Am I alone in this boat or are others in the boat with me??????
Colin.

Yep still waiting too, on the current version you could run two GPS's of it but the new one you can only run one so you have to pay extra for the licence.

My CD arrived on Christmas Eve, but they appear to still have a problem with the registration process. I registered immediately, but still have not yet received the unlock code.

G'day Phil
excellent product backup ain't it!!!!!!!!!!!

All of this cos' they are paranoid about piracy to the point of ruining customer relations, which continued will destroy the product credibility anyway.
Colin.

PS Phil, when did you order yours? was it before Sept. or later.

As a dealer we where told the problems where rectified

The CD's where in the country MONTHS ago - but Garmin USA had problems with their registration process and instructed GME (The Aust Dist) to HOLD ALL CD's until advised

Last we heard was it was all go and CD's where being distributed as fast as the could physically managed to ship em!

Not withstanding Xmas period delivery problems - everyone who ordered them *should* receive them shortly

As far as "not receiving" your unlock code - it should be a simple matter of logging into your "my garmin" account and it should register the software automagically as part of the process - did for me. I didnt "receive" a code via email of the like - it just did it online and picked it up from my "My Garmin" account (when you select that option during setup).

For those who haven't used the "my garmin" function for keeping their various units registered and unlock codes kept online - its a pretty handy feature.

Stocky,
As far as I understand, the updated discs should be delivered free from wherever, and u then pay for the unlock code. The method you describe seems not to accommodate that, as we must pay first and the unlock code will only THEN be given, necessitating notification of some sort, I would assume.

This is a farce really, if this was in the USA market it would have been attended to in hours, not the months we have had to wait.

I could just imagine a US Garmin board meeting.
IT dept= "The Aussies have a code issue".

Boss= "Screw them, they can wait, they only represent a small percentage of our market and are unimportant to us here"

IT dept= "Hey you guys in Australia will just have to hold distribution of your discs until we get around to fixing the problem, maybe after the Thanks Giving holiday"

The joys of living in a small market.
Colin

As far as I am aware - you get on the GARMIN website - register your product (GPS) - then you either get a FREE upgrade (depends on when you bought your unit - or you PAY.....and then get sent the disc.......

Stocky,
It's an upgrade over V6-7 ordered from the Garmin web site (I guess USA) and they send the upgrade by mail free, and when I apply for a key #, I then have to pay for it.

It puzzles me why I cannot download it from Garmin and then pay for it the same manner, and the disc can be sent at a later stage for backup.
They move in mysterious ways.

You are an agent and possibly feel the need to defend them, but "too big", I think not.

Bigger than A full DVD movie?
Bigger than MS Office?
Bigger than unlimited Broadband, that a lot of people have today, no way.

Face it mate, it's a coqk up from start to finish.

I do admire your loyalty however, and I wish you were my local dealer, maybe then we could get somewhere, instead I have to talk to faceless minions on the phone that say "It's not my fault" as if it's "my fault for ordering it".
Thanks mate. Colin

Not defending them really - i don't get anything for defending them and I agree it hasnt been good enough by a long shot.

I have customers who bought units eligible for the "free" upgrade who are still waiting....I feel bad for them but like you,I cant get the problem fixed :-(

Out here in the sticks it is s a HUGE download - most people are on crappy sat and pay thru the nose for it....it would kill their monthly limit to even try downloading it - even if it worked first time.

I'd like to meet the bloke worse of than me, maybe then I'd feel better LOL

Bloody thing installed correctly, used my 25 character password etc...got a message on screen saying the process was successful...then I fired up the GPS and I get message saying CAN NOT UNLOCK MAPS....Oh joy.

The good news is, all the other features seem to work...I just can't use them!

Hi

You are doing it wrong if you entered your 35 character unlock code. That is only for hand held gps's & PC unlocking, not for updating the nuvi or other navigator's etc.

If you run the update part & log in on that process, it will get an unlock code that you don't see & will automatically unlock the maps without you typing in the code.

I have a detailed .pdf on what to do & not do. If you want it, send me your email addy.

That's sounds a whole lot different to what my disc was telling me to do...anyway, love to look at the PDF please.

Send it to (cruisin28 at hotmail dot com)

Many thanks, and I hope you're right!

I received that Email thanks.

I followed the instructions but even they are different from what you mentioned above.

You mention "You are doing it wrong if you entered your 35 character unlock code. That is only for hand held gps's & PC unlocking, not for updating the nuvi or other navigator's etc."

1/ I think you made a typo with '35 character' code...it's only a 25 character code...but that's not the issue...

2/ My unit is nuvi 660, so according to the instructions, option 3 (page 2) is for me...yes?

3/ In the process which I followed all way...it does ask for the 25 character code from (garmin myaccount) which I entered ant it accepted.

4/ At the conclusion of everything telling me all was successfully completed, I reboot by 660 and I get a message on screen saying "cannot unlock maps"

I'm sure I'm doing it right!!!

AAAARRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Still waiting on a reply from Garmin support (sent the question 3 days ago) but it is Xmas I suppose...

Thanks for the help

Andrew.

PS...version 4.20 has loaded successfully according to info in the GPS.

Hi Andrew,

Yes it was a typo - it is a 25 character code.

Yes, option 3 is correct.

The destructions say "Since the Mapsource installation installs a
standard map to your PC it cannot be unlocked using unlock codes generated for NT maps i.e Nuvi,".
Now to be honest I can't remember exactly what happened, but I will tell you that the 1st time I did it, when I restarted the Nuvi, I got the same message as you. I then stuffed around with it a lot, before I got it to work. I am 99.9% sure that when it did work, the unlock code for NT maps, I never saw or typed in.
Having read that .pdf again, I see that that does not make sense, but I swear that I never typed in a different unlock code.

I'll get out my Nuvi later & do it again so I'm sure of the process.

I have a NUVI 660 and must be one of the lucky ones! My CD arrived on Christmas Eve,I went through the install process(which I found quite user friendly and well explained) and like stocky said, I logged into "my account" and it unlocked whatever it was supposed to. I must say that for a dill such as myself(when it comes to computers etc) that the upgrade process was very easy.Trust me,that really is saying something.
