Hi everyone, This is my first time posting here so I hope I'm in the right place. I'm trying to find a good camping spot around perth for a few days over new year, big ask I know but I'm just trying to fit it in berfore the temp sky rockets again, I don't mind if it's bush camping or caravan park just prefereably somewhere near water. Promised the kids we'd take them camping, very unorganised, any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. (we will be in a tent, and have 4wd)

Hi

Suggest the Lane Pool Reserve about an hours drive south of Armadale, 7.5 kms from Dwellingup. It is quite a large area, have a look at Baden- Powell or the old Nanga Mill site. Nanga Mill would be my preference, plenty of room for the kids to run around and not too far from the river. The area is controlled by CALM, think they call themselves DEC now. Fees were $5 adults and $2 for kids but I think they may have gone up a dollar or two.

It may be a bit busy this time of year and you may have a few yobbos down there drinking on New Year.

CALM's Dwellingup office can be contacted on (08) 9538 1078, might be best to give them a ring and get the latest. I doubt you will be able to have a fire this time of year but if you can you will have to bring in your own wood or buy it from Dwellingup. They did have someone coming around selling wood but CALM will be able to set you straight on that.

Good luck.

More than a bit busy we were there this time last year and the only reason we got a space was coz we were camped in the back of the missus hilux so all we needed was a park.
probably the same most spots a couple of hours from perth so it would pay to be prepared to move on and check other sites if need be

Hi Super,

Could try Wilbinga (1 1/2 hours north) on the dunes, no facilities and can get busy.

There is lake Leschenault up in the hills (not been there but plan 2 I've heard good reports)

A bit further afield in the camp area on Point Rd (4 hours south) just before Hamlin Bay

Hope this helps

Go camping on Myalup / Preston beach, 40km or so before Bunbury.

It's illegal but neither I or friends have ever been pinged by the Ranger.

Thanks for your help everyone, I will take all that on board, I managed to get a site booked at the Jurien bay tourist park for a couple of nights, so I might take the easy option and head up there this time, I tied lake leshanaultia but no room up there.
Thanks heaps, Bec.

Supersix,

If you are interested in camping and 4WD here is a good site to go to: www.campingwa.net

It is WA specific for camping etc.
