Heading down Bunbury way and was wondering if there are any crabs to be caught in the Leschenault Inlet these days ? Appreciate any local guidance on this as Mandurah and
Perth are pretty hopeless for crabbing of late.
Happy New Year to all the ExplorOz mob online.

Mal,
Yesterday about 6pm SWMBO and I went out into the Peel Estuary just past Mandurah Quays and parked the tinny up in some shallow
water.
We jumped off for our first ever attempt at using scoop nets (up to now we used drop nets in deeper
water) and had a dozen size in the baby bath in 15 minutes. That's enough for us two so home we went and chowed down.
Happy New Year and plenty of crabs to you too.

GB Memories in the later 90s of going to the Peel Estuary with some locals from around Coolup. Was given the option of eating beef out of the freezer or going fishing.
We found the nets were set up by the time of our arrival and soon after the mullet strarted to flow enough to start with a huge mountain of green chillies into the pan to stuff into the crusty bread. Yumm for the entree.
The chilli infused oil was then used to
cook the chopped mullet, after flouring. Yumm for mains.
Just on dusk the crabs came for the mullet and even our share was a 20 litre buckets of crabs for the host.
It was a most memorable bush tucker experience out with the local farmers.

Hello
No, unfortunately there is no crabs, hasn't been for years.
There are also no fish or rock lobster in ocean nearby. Sad but true.
Don’t recommend anyone from
Perth heading south ever again:)
Cheers
Greg

Hello Old Mal
Ok, more seriously, went out yesterday late afternoon on the Leschenault Estuary (opposite Australind/Clifton
Park - not to be confused with Leschenault Inlet which is near Bunbury itself) and after 3 or 4 hours caught 4 size crabs (9 drop nets from boat). So doesn’t look that flash at the moment,
well not in that part of town anyway. There were only a few others trying (including some scooping).
It is easy to know when there are plenty of crabs to be had - the Estuary looks like
Sydney Harbour at the start of the
Sydney Hobart Yacht Race - minus the yachts.
Cheers

Greg, mate observes of the yachts locally......
" the shags bleep on em all winter and the bleep s shag on em all summer" Don't think there was a tinge of jealousy in that;-)))
I guess that was wasn't your suggested source of crabs though?
............. just to be off on the tangent of course ............. LOL
