A friend is thinking of buying a current model Nissan Pathfinder auto turbo diesel.
I can't find fuel figures anywhere.
Can anyone advise what fuel economy he can expect and anything else he should be aware of, good and bad, before reaching into his wallet?
cheers, thanks in advance.

Bushy
Sorry can't help with the fuel figures, but there was a series of posts a while back about the Nissan supplied towbar - apparently it is a real dud and super dangerous!!! From what I can remember it is simply bolted on under the bumper and the bolts have a habit of pulling out. Nissan apparently do not recommend the use of weight distribution hitches. I think the upshot of it all was "buy Hayman Reese"!!!. Do a search on the
forum for more info.

Bolted onto the rear crossmember rather than the stronger chassis rails. Not the best set up and care needed if thinking about a snatch recovery using the tow bar !!

GB, here is a comparison of Pathy, Disco, Playdoh and Terry-tree test. At
another site I know. That one is quoting a petrol only motor though so read on.
There is a towing test at the same site with even more vehicles including a diesel Pathy 3/4 way through the article
here, best on single page.

The Red Book has figures for any vehicle including current models.
Here is the 2008 Pathfinder diesel.

From memory guys in the club are getting slightly better 10L/100km out of the Diesel Pathfinders.
The original factory tow bar was a poorly designed unit that was strengthened as part of a product campaign (not quite a recall)
Find out all you need to know at

Try and find someone with one and ask they the real life fuel usage....not what the manufacture advertisers.
I would not worry about fuel consumption to much expect around 13lts per 100k on average.
Fuel consumption varies with who is driving it, how they drive it, what it is used for, how much weight it carries and where it is driven.
Our Hilux is ment to get about 8.8 Lts. per 100k, we get 9.7 to 10.5 on the highway with no camper trailer, with the camper we get 11 to 13 depending on wind and terain and if we are 4wding we get about 20 lts. per 100k.
The Hiliux weights 2600kg and another 1300kg for the camper.

Hi GB
I've had a 2005 Pathy STL t-deisel for 6 months. Expect 12-13lt/100km city driving, 10-11 highway. This is driving conservatively, even with a load on board. My wife is a bit more of a lead foot, and city driving can increase to 14 if you're not careful. Am just about to tow a trailer up the coast for 2 weeks, will let you know the results.
Cheers

Fuel consumption was 10.5ltr/100km with a full trailer and cabin. Used 1/2 tank from
Sydney to Port Macquarie, about $50 worth of deisel. A couple of Territory owners in the
campsite were VERY surprised by the low figure.....
