Hi all

Was reading the Herald Sun Cars Guide today about the 200series Landcruiser and the paper said that the six speed auto would not select 6th gear until the car hit 120km/h. Said that the fuel economy was 13.1 to 15km per litre which was worse than expected.

Seems a curious thing that it would only change into 6th at 120km/h - guy in the paper said someone else had said the same thing and Toyota Australia said .......

..........nothing........everyone was away.

Not sure if it is something that you would notice, given it it has five gears up ot 120km. Has anyone here got one? And no - I am not going to buy one.

Whoops - I thought when I was posting that I had not done a search and that would be someone's response. But could not be bothered starting again. Proof really that I am not spending enough time on EO.

Also a letter to the editor in Australian 4x4 outlining the very same thing.

Really make a T-van fly Andrew. Go on, go on....... change your mind, come on, Jen needs the extra power to pick up the kids at school.

Jen keeps telling me she wants a smaller car to pick up the kids. Maybe like your city car.

Would like the Tvan to fly rather than sit in the garage for so long. I think this is the year of home reno's rather than any travel. Spent all my dough - no money for toys or travel.

Jen must like the look of the smaller Subaru WRX STI, that would make a great school bus

Well, yes Bonz. 4by still too, but would that mean another garage door to design into the house changes. Can they spin the wheels in reverse backing out? Just another $25k onto the building bill.

I am new so be gentle....on the subject of the Landcruiser 200 6 speed auto my experience with a new non turbo 4.2 Nissan was that it took >100k to fully run in and free up which meant that at any given speed you needed less throttle as time went by. As a result of my experience I theorise that the 6 speed auto will progressively lock up at and hold top at lower speeds because of your reduced throttle which in theory give you a double wammy in terms of lower fuel consumption. Now if my theory is correct you are better off getting someone else to do it for you by buying a good run-in version if you are wanting good fuel consumption. Also I notice on my Wrangler CRD Auto it wont lock up in top until 98 but the will hold top down to 90, the 200 will probably do likewise
