Okay, as I said yesterday in another post, I have to contribute some scheckells to the consolidated revenue of the SA government after my little indiscretion (thanks to the Aussie cricket team!!).

Now I've decided I need to get a speed alert gizmo (I'm not keen on cruise control in a manual; but it's still an option I'm willing to look at if need be).

But it struck me when I was trying to get to sleep last night, that the Nuvi (as well as numerous other GPS nav systems) has the 2 basic requirements to do waht I need. It records the speed VERY accurately (so much so that the Max Speed on the Nuvi agreed exactly with the good officer's radar) and it has a little voice inside it that tells me where to go!!

So, this begs the question..... can I program that little sheila inside the Nuvi to give me a verbal reminder that I'm being a naughty boy? I don't see anything in the various menus, but I have been known to be less than perfect when it comes to understanding these ingenious electronic gadgets.....

They're already programmed mate. You can never re-program a woman to do anything different :)

LOL,

I have a Tom Tom and it goes off when I go over the limit by more than 5km/h, so I think that a Garmin product should be able to do the same thing.
Just need it to recognise road work speed limits to make it even better ;))

Cheers Kev

Sure, GPS units and some cars have Speed Alerts, but who actually bothers to change the alarm speed every time the speed limit changes, considering how painful it ususally is to change the setting ?

The answer is NO, but it will warn you of RLCs, Sp Cams, Schools, ...if you upload the required files into it, Mine has the Garmin Talking warnings for RLCs etc , .but what you need is this .

EVO Road Angel

I don't use mine anymore , not in the cities , going cheap.

And the little tart inside your GPS won't tell tell you when your speeding but the copper will...

As others have said, TomTom alerts you when you exceed the speed limit by 5 kph.

I'm surprised that the Garmin models don't provide this function.

A plus for TomTom.

Hi Sandman, i have the TomTom on PDA and i couldn't see that feature .

On the Nuvi760 i think it's in there, mine shows a little box with the speed limit and i;m sure with the POI loader.
I haven't yet done it but i will soon.

you can get just a Speed Alert...by AVO?

it is a bit primitive to what maybe on the market today re Scholl zones etc etc

but its helped me to avoid ...except when i planted the foot to get ahaed to move over and ignored the audible alarm.....70 in a 60....so it wasnt to painfull
