Hi Guys,

I know this subject has been done to death but this is a new development. In the latest CMCA Magazine is an ad for an approved 15amp to 10amp caravan lead. Obviously an enterprising sparky has designed, built and got Aust Standards approval for his lead. Basically it allows legal plugging in of caravan leads to household 10 amp sockets. Has built in cct breaker and RCD. Also comes with 10 meter lead attached, so now you can legally join two leads together for longer distances.
Anyway you can read it for yourselves (his spelling is typical sparky, but you can read it) at

Legal leads

Yessss... I seem to remember he tried to push this product on here a while ago.

There are a couple of people who try to push their own commercial barrows on this forum without signing up as advertisers or even buying a $50 membership, not good enough really.

Maybe we should cut a bit of slack this time, after all it has been discussed 'ad nauseum' here on the forum, maybe this will end it, although I doubt it.

I have recently stayed overnight in a caravan park, albeit not willingly, that believe it or not, only had 10amp outlets.

Questions regarding this subject have been raised on this forum many times over the last couple of years. Many people are aware that the practice of modifying leads to suit is both illegal and possibly dangerous. Therefore they have asked for help on this forum, but usually they are told that the only way is to adopt the illegal practice of modifying leads. I happened to see an ad in a magazine that offers people the legal way to go, but some of the old farts on this forum can only see there way clear to accuse me of self interest!!! DHs!! If you checked the website you would see that this sparky person resides somewhere in Qld. I live in SW vic. and work on a cattle station!!! Where is the self interest in that??? I thought that this forum was mainly for sharing ideas and information of interest to us all. But it appears I was wrong. It seems to be here for the personal use of a bigoted few who believe they can do no wrong, and assume every one else is is in it for personal gain. GET A LIFE!!!!

Nonetheless, a very clever and marketable device.

Even more clever was convincing the Australian Standards Association to accept it.

No - the standard already had provision for this. It just took time for someone to produce it.

He claims it is the only one on the market, but there were some produced for the fairground travellers some time ago, so it is not the first one to be manufactured.

Why not just cut the 15 amp plug of the lead and put a 10 amp one on..........total cost $7.20.

I would have thought that caravans and campers are wired with a 15amp system for a good reason therefore I wouldn't be going down to 10amps
