Has anyone recently been to
Mitchell Falls in the
Kimberley. If so, were the falls running. Also interested to know the situation regarding swimming/salt water crocodiles as Ozexplorer conflicts with National Parks information. Any relevant information you can relay would be appreciated.

You will walk from the
camping area along the
Merton past Little
Merton falls then to the main
Merton Falls and a couple of hundred metres further on you will get to the
Mitchell Falls. It will be clear to you when you get there.
You can safely swim below little
Merton falls and above the main
Mitchell Falls, but not below the main falls as that is where the salties swim. Just after you turn off the Kalumburru road towards
Mitchell plateu you will cross the
King Edward River, about I K past on the right are two areas you can
camp. The second one has a pit
toilet and a woderful place to
camp and swim.
Unable to confirm if water going over the falls. I would ring
Drysdale River (they have a web site) and ask them as they arrange flights over the area.

Three weeks ago the falls were running, we waded across upstream from the falls - it was about knee deep and flowing strongly where we crossed. As per previous response can recommend the
King Edward River as a camping spot , we camped there as the road after that was very corragated and we were towing a campertrailer.
Camping area at the falls
carpark also looks OK. if you are tenting it.
You can get a helicopter flight over the falls - walk in and helicopter out -
well worth it.

Alan

can vouch for the chopper ride too. We also walked in and flew out. Took the Big Kahuna chopper ride which lasted about an hour and took in heaps of other scenery.
