OK I'm really jack of my Samsung A501. It needs recharging every bloody day. So I rang Telstra about getting a new phone and this old duck on the other end said to me that I need to get a Blue Tick phone because they work better in the country.
Now is this the biggest feed of crap I've heard or what!
"It really doesn't come down to the phone" I said to her. "It's all about the power output and quality of signal from the service"
Sounds like Tesltra's trying to pull the wool guys, they're clutching at straws to get back in the good books!

The only diff between a blue tick and a normal next g phone is on the blue tick ones there is the option to plug an external aerial into them..
No aerial...and using them as a normal hand held, I don't believe there is any diff ??
Go to a Telstra
shop and ask them ?? Don't bother....they know nothing about next g ...
Ring up Telstra ?? They know nothing as
well ...
I bought an LG550...and while it seems a good phone....it rings 3 or 4 times before I can hear it ?? Bloody ascending ring tone.....part of the phone....can't get rid of it !!!
If I didn't need the coverage of next g ( I hope they do improve it ) there is no way I would deal with Telstra !!
They are a bit like insurance companies and banks...the bigger they get the less they look after their most important asset.....
their CUSTOMERS !!!!!!

I had the LG 550 for less than 24 hours and took it back and had that contract cancelled.........took a far bit of dancing around at the Telstra
shop and demanding a supervisor (they hate that) before I got it cancelled........signal strength no better than the 701 it replaced..
read my other post re the rest of it....and I do believe there is a difference even without the aerial jack plugged in....we are in very funny signal area and I believe it has been a good
test based on our experiences

Mate if you don't like the ring tones that came with phone ....do as I did, get on the internet, look up some .Wavs and download Roosters and goat sounds or whatever tickles your fancy , convert them to MP3s and stick em in your phone, I have the Cyclone warning for a ring tone, loud and easy to hear.
Wav sounds
Yes I know we can download MP3 ringtones.

It's not the ringtone I'm complaining about....it's the ascending ringtone ( ie; it's on every ringtone....it's inbuilt into the phone !! )
I've made my own ringtone ( ring ring........how original !! )
Not sure who that other person was having a go at about trying another service......but if it was me...you should read the post....I said IF I didn't need next g coverage I would go elsewhere !!

the simple fact is that it does come down to the phone and the blue tick !
I have put up with the Samsung 701 for 12 months....good town phone...but hopeless signal drop outs in the country (where I live)...... Telstra cancelled my contract (12 months to run) and I have the Samsung 412 (blue tick)...absolutely 100 % satisified so far....
side by side on our property I compared my original (701 at 2 signal strength bars flickering down to 1 bar)..LG 550 (blue tick) 2 to 4 bars Samsung 412 and 411 full strength and steady.....we now have a 412 and two 411's (blue ticks)
instead of bagging Telstra suggest you go and buy another service provider's mobile service and then try using them outside the big
population areas........you will be back to telstra if you want mobile service
by the way I am not a great big fan of telstra ...their country service is not perfect and could be a lot better than it is..... but at least they dont simply chase the big populations as do the others and forget about the country

Brett,

As I understand the post it's about the REASON you rang telstra, because you have a Samsung phone that may have a DUD battery
that's why you rang Telstra... isn't it ?
I also changed to a Samsung (a412) after ditching the
dam useless Chinese made Telstra 165 thing.
Admittedly my FIRST Samsung 412, also had a low battery run time, so I 'insisted' the entire phone be swapped for a new one, just in case it was an internal problem causing the battery to drain.
This second Samsung seems to run for ever with-out recharging, at least 3 if not 4 days minimum.
And that's nothing to do with phone coverage on nextG, 3g, blue tick or cdma :-))
Mainey...

Hi. Telstra is like any large retail company - you can get great service and lousy service.
Many of the Telstra Shops are owner operated "Telstra Licensed Shops". They are interested in doing a good job and they have a little more flexibility. Find a good salesperson, explain your requirements, and get approval to bring back the product if its not fit for purpose.
You will certainly get more satisfaction in a
shop compared to a call centre.
No affiliation etc etc.
