I will agree fully what you say, but I would like to add a twist.

Thanks to all the good Coppers out there that look after us all

Thanks to all the dedicated nurses out there

Thanks to all the Ambos out there

Thanks to the emergency services workers out there

Thanks to the blokes who tried to save a mate of mine last week

And thanks to the flying doctor who tried but could only do what they could

These people all deserve the Aussie of the year

Off course they do, and we all know and appreciate that, but this symbolic award is only awarded to one person, and you can't be any more passionate about OZ than Lee. I would cheerfully give it to the Flying Dr. pilot I saw land his aircraft in a dust storm after a day of many "house" calls in the outback during that dust storm, but that's what great aussies do, No Fuss, No Fanfare, not looking for pats on the back, just get the job done. bleep I'm feeling patriotic tonight, must be Aust. day tomorrow. Australians all let us rejoice.................C'mon.

Just one question. Why does it have to this year be given to a celebrity? As mentioned by Rock Ape there are more deserving people out there who should qualify. I'd be interested to know whats the stats were to give him the honour!!. Just one humble aussie opinion so don't take it to heart.

G'day Fred,

well yep good on him, he works hard I reckon and he loves this country.

me, I could never stand hearing an American accent singing about Australia.

Give me Slim any day, or THE PIGRAMS ! etc....

I've threatened EO Dave with this award a couple of yrs back. Still on the cards it is.

Have a good weekend all, I'm off to the Taralga Rodeo and then some. Equine Influenza reducing this year to one day with no Saddle Bronc etc. but we get a twilight Bullride so always an upside.

kind regards to all,

Jeremy.

Have a good rodeo.

Easy to give it to someone in the lime light.

Give it to the ones that get on with there job.

They are more deserving than a singer.

I totally agree with the comments about "Rain Drops" how wet behind the ears could you get.

Sorry, but I think it is a poor choice.

I reckon Australian of the Year should have been awarded to the Fire Services!

Whilst I agree that there are various services that deserve not only awards but every Australian's undying gratitude, as has been stated before it is a sybolic award.
To say that Lee Kernaghan doesn't deserve it is a joke.
Yes the man is a celebrity but he has used that celebrity status to raise over $1,000,000 to aid our farmers during the drought. Add to that the money he has personally donated to the cause. Also the fact that he organized various other muso's to help out with the Pass the Hat around tour and the Back to the Bush tour that raised all this money.
Sorry people he is VERY deserving.

Peter

indeed Laura,

i believe this award is nominated by jo blo and i guess more people know (of) him than the back of house/front line heroes. but this guy does a great deal more than most of us are aware of.

personally, i would not buy one of his records though...

It appears Mr Kernaghan is jolly good bloke but what a pity he doesn't sing with the same Aussie accent that he uses when he talk.

I want to thank all of our Australian Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen who keep us safe and watch over us everyday. To those who are spending Australia Day away from home in theaters like A/Stan, Iraq, the Gulf and any other conflict around the world.

Without these dedicated men and women, we'd be living a very different life style.

Proud of ya!
