Still to be named the Dakar Rally- but will be held in South America thru Argentina and Chile. Still early January- with 6000km competitive stages...
Probably not as much sand as Africa- but I reckon they will find some awesome roads down in that part of the country !!

Yep. should give some interest in the event. If one goes over the side his clothes will be out of fashion time he hits the bottom.

Hi Signman.
I saw on foxtel sport the other day that there is to be a dakar off road rally series in Europe. Most of the
well known teams have entered & I hope we get to see it on tv in aust.

I competed in the '77 London to
Sydney (in a Datto) and it was no where near as 'challenging' as the '79 Round Australia Trial (also in a Datto).
Larry Perkins ran a pretty mean VW in that one...about the only car that could survive the greasy mud around Bordertown !!

Good looking 73 - 1302S beetle.
Guessing at 73. Round windscreen came out in 73, and the front cross member looks cast rather than pressed so that means pre mid 74.
Thanks for the site ref.
Friend in the VW club is rallying a beetle in the revised group N and doing
well.

Oops, David Scharf's beetle is there, but with the old mags which I got from him late last year, so the photo must be about 12 months old. And he has updated the ignition (dizzy) since then by the photo.
