Howdy all ,

I'm thinking of buying one of these but I can't seem to find if I can add maps to the unit on its SD card ... Read a few threads here and it seems most people attach the garmin to their laptops and run OziExplorer etc.. I already have a laptop with 2005 Natrasters and UBD .
All I want to know is can I load a Natraster map to the Garmin and walk around with it ?
I tend to wander around National parks a bit taking photos and could do with a decent non-paper map at times..

Any advice is good advice ...

Thanks in advance

Steve .

In short, NO!

Raster type maps will not run on a Garmin.

You would need to obtain Tracks for Australia, shonky maps, or the recently released Oztopo2 maps.

Doug T ( or should I say, D & D) had a look @ yr, GPS Info site & the new 760. seems a great unit
I am looking @ replacing my old, pocket pc, with navman installed, came free with a jeep i brought years ago.
the latest map update i can get is 2006. ??

as a lot of the maps etc are now quoting UTM, is the garmin(any model) able to convert or search in this facility. ????
from what i have seen, Magellan XL can do this, not sure about garmin. ??

can u advise. thanks Tom

From what I can gather NO /YES , No the Nuvi 760 only displays the the Datums as shown in the small screen shot ,
Yes UTM is shown and can be used in Mapsource City Nav' v7 but only on the PC .
The smaller Garmin Quest has Datum UTM in the unit /
I am wondering why datum is such an important feature for when h'd's works fine .

Hi Steve
The only maps you can load into your Nuvi (that I am aware of), apart from genuine Garmin maps, such as City Navigator and Blue Chart etc, is Oztopo, which you have to purchase, or one of the free map sets "Tracks4Australia" (T4A) or "Shonky". both of these can be downloaded from the net. I have both T4A and Shonky on my Nuvi 660 and my 60cx.
