My map sugggest this road is not sealed, but I think it is. RACQ road report has a number of dirt roads in this area closed or open with restrictions. I can find no mention of this road, so suspect it is sealed and open.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Mate it is not. Your map is correct. No roads to the North and East of Taroom are sealed in their entirety. I read a post of yours a few days ago referring to the road to Alpha and I have seen road trains dry bogged on that road in bulldust and also have seen the road bed several meters below the level of the road shoulders after heavy rain.

Thanks for that. With the amount of rain in the area recently, think I'll go a different way.

Leichhardt Hwy runs North out of Taroom and it's sealed.

OK Steve. You must be calirvoiant. I'm actually heading for Borroloola, but considering some options for potentially travelling via Charters Towers to visit family. Have done the trip many times via a number of routes. Just looking for some different roads for part of the trip without making it too long and avoiding dirt in the areas where there has been a lot of rain.
Your suggestion was on the list, but not a lot of camp spots along that road that I know of.

The road from Roma to Taroom is not sealed and gets very messy with rain (as I found out the hard way after first checking with the Taroom police that it was open).

For the best up to date info on road conditions in this area Norm send Dave (Tourboy) a MM as he travels the roads in this area almost daily.

Cheers Kev

Actually more than half of Roma-Taroom is now sealed - work on about 30 km of new bitumen was almost finished last September. BUT yes there are still unsealed sections that get very boggy after decent rain.

John,

I drove it in early December and found it very boggy in quite a few sections. The road work crews just waved me through the road work sections.

Cheers Kev

I'm going that way (Roma, Rolleston, Springsure, Emerald, CT) in about six weeks' time - whether they've cleared the road up or not. Probably a bit easier in that I'll be coming from further south and don't have to do such a right-angled route as you would from say, Brissie. Saves a lot of grief though, the road being better.

Hi Kev (and Steve)

Was it the next section (near the Peek-a-doo School) where Main Roads were upgrading that was boggy, or elsewhere? It was a bit cut up when we drove through, on the Roma side.

Steve, you better hope it stops raining up here before you have to tackle it.

Cheers, John

John,

It was on the Roma end, I went through just after 2.5 inches of rain :(
Was not happy that they still classed it as open.

Cheers Kev

Hi Norm,

Both the Fitzroy Developmental Road (or "Beef Road" as it is also known as) and Gregory Highway (Emerald North) are sealed and open. Drove both on Firday and Sunday just gone and heading down the Beef Road again on Thursday. Peak Downs Highway (Clermont to Mackay) and Gregory Developmental Road (Clermont to Charters Towers) are open as well. Not sure if the Gregory Dev. Road is sealed though.

Both have speed limits of 100km/hr. The Beef Road does have some roadworks around 30min North of Middlemount turnoff due to flood damage but is not closed.

Regards
David

Mate, I would think the Roma/Taroom Road would be wet but drivable, we have only had a few showers. But T/Storms forecast Thursday. Bit of mud won't hurt you.

I'll stand corrected. Silver Springs, about 40k from Roma on the Roma-Taroom Road, 21/2 inches last night. Would be a tad slippery I would think.
