G'day all ACT's and travellers, we are looking at either caravan parks or camping grounds around Canberra, on our way back from the Blue Mountains after Easter. Can anyone shed some light on there experiences. We will be there for 4-5 nights.

cheers,

Lance

Last year we got a spot in Queynbeyan at short notice while Summernatz was on.

The van park on the Highway into Canberra at the NSW near the Ridges resort border was OK too.

If you want to bushcamp rather than camping in the city there is a range of camping grounds which can be found at ACT Campgrounds.
I have camped at Woods Reserve, Blue Range Hut, Honeysuckle campground, Orroral campground and Mt Clear. All were good sites.Woods reserve has hot showers, although the web link indicates they are currently turned off because of the drought. Firewood also used to be free at this site. Honeysuckle Creek would be my favourite with several easy walks available, and access to interpretations from the Space tracking station that was based there at the time of the Apollo program. (Canberrans will claim that the first footagefrom the Apollo 11 landing came from Honeysuckle Creek not Parkes.) Mt Clear is well out of the way.

I can assure you that the first pictures from the moon came through Honeysuckle Creek. I was a member of the Canberra PCUG in the late 90s. Two of its members were Mike Dinn and John Saxon. They were on duty at HSK on the day of the moon landing. For a resume of the truth stretching in the movie see Mike's web site at http://members.tip.net.au/~mdinn/TheDish/index.htm
