Hi all,

Well, I bought an off-road camper trailer located in Renmark, SA on ebay last night. Trouble is, I'm in Toowoomba, QLD. Ringing around carriers today, best price I can get to have it freighted to Brisbane is $1320. Sooo... if anyone with a towbar is heading from/through Renmark in the next week or two to any of Wollongong, Sydney (Menai), Grafton, Brisbane or Toowoomba (or, come to that, anywhere within six hours or so of Toowoomba, say Armidale or Moree or somewhere like that), I'd love to pay for your fuel if you'll tow the trailer for me! Weighs about 600 kg so probably needs to be a Falcon or bigger.

This is a serious offer!

Thanks all,

Tim Z

If you do find someone make sure they are who they say they are. Can be easy enough to turnup with a set of bodgy plates on a vehicle with a bit of fake ID & WELLA ! they have a offroad camper for nothing. Don't be too trusting ! Personally I would rather pay the freight for peace of mind.

Thanks shane,

I'd prefer something earlier if possible - don't know if the seller will be happy to store it for six weeks.

PS: Nice Patrol you have there!

mate your quite welcome to transport the trailer to me in Adelaide (about $100.00 ) and can store at my house until i come up if that helps.
cheers shane.
ps try booths transport in Adelaide, they are across the road from my factory, they normally have good rates. sometimes its better to go back, there is more options then.

Thanks shane,

I'll look into that booths transport; and I may yet take you up on that offer! Still hoping for something earlier if possible, though - it's be nice to give it a shakedown trip at Easter before doing the Simmo in June/July.

Hi Signman,

Don't you know it's part of the Australian (sorry, Aussie) national identity to shorten or otherwise modify the names of things?

Australian language is great. I have some good American friends, and its amazing how often they don't understand me when I say things like "he shot through", "spat the dummy", "dunny", etc, etc, etc.

Ziggo, I'm with Signman on this one. I have to give the Simpson desert the full respect it deserves.
Geez, it doesn't seem like 2 years since I was on the Kiddo:))
Or 12 months since I was at Birdo.

I know what you mean but I guess I'm just not an "Oh" kinda guy :)))))))

Hi Doug,

I've been looking for ages in Brissie, no luck. Thought I had one on the Sunshine Coast but he sold it to the neighbour three hours before I was leaving Toowoomba to come up and hopefully buy it. This one's a good enough deal that even if I do have to get it freighted it'll still be around the same money as they're going for in Brissie anyway. But - I have to admit that freight's about double what I'd expected! :-)

(That quote was from Fletchers, by the way - thanks for the tip.)

Half the fun is the free trip you get :) Someone on here will help you out mate, another option may be to ask at Greyhound freight....one of their busses may have a towbar...

I'd love to do the trip, but getting four days off in a row just isn't that likely at present.

That's a good idea about Greyhound - I'll give them a ring tomorrow. I'm wondering though if the off-road hitch will put it into the too hard basket.

Thanks,
Tim

I didn't think about it too hard because I'll still have to get it from Renmark to Adelaide first - but if Shane above is right about that only being around $100, it might be worth looking into after all.

Thanks,
Tim

Tim $1300 odd bucks is good, whats the price of fuel/litre? What about wear and tear on the truck? Insurance? Wages? 1 camper trailer does take up alot of pallet space so remember it all about cost/pallet space. Plus Fletcher are one of the better ones. It will get there in tact. You could go to the drama of transporting it to Mildura then getting it top loaded on a truck heading to Brisbane and then have the drama of unloading it in Toowoomba somewhere. Or better still take all long week and go and get it yourself. I wouldn't trust some hobo on escam or bring it up here.

Just a thought.

Tim, to options for getting good prices for long haul trucking are back loading and flexible timing.

Back loading might be tough (not sure how many trucks would cart full loads from Brisbane to Renmark or Adelaide, then be looking for a load on the way back). But worth checking. There are transport brokers who manage and match back load supply and demand. I've been out of the business too long to name any. But they won't be difficult to find if you check around.

The flexible timing option is worth a try. For example, about 5 years ago, we wanted to transport two cars from Melbourne to Gold Coast or Brisbane. I don't remeber the costs, but a smallish general trucking company (had about a dozen trucks I think), offered a half priced deal if we gave them a delivery window of at least 21 days. That was fine to us and they got the flexibility of fitting them on when they had space. Both cars arrived in about 14 days in good condition. Worked out as a good deal for both sides. With less freight (I suspect) moving Adelaide/Brisbane than Melbourne/Brisbane, you might need an even bigger window. But might be worth checking out.

Good luck.

That's a rip-off price. $6 -700 should pull it up. It cost me $495 to transport a trailer from Brisbane to Melbourne (at door).

I just sold a GU Patrol on ebay to a bloke in Brissey. He organized a company called CEVA to transport it for about $800. They leave from Adelaide but alot of freight goes through the riverland on its way to the eastern states. Give them a try.
