LMAO
Best way is straight up the Newel to Goondawindi then decide if you want to go up the center to Charters Towers (shortest 2300km, but not as many
services on the way), or head for
Rockhampton, then the coast to TSV (2500km lots of stops and service). You could go through
Brisbane but this takes the trip ~2900km, adding about a day in reality to the trip compared with the Charters route due to BNE traffic.
I did that exact trip last year in the middle of Jan in a 2 litre Kia Sportage towing a 2 tonne furniture trailer (12'x6'x7') in 38 degrees, and into a strong 30 kt northerly wind. Took two and a half days driving like a man possesed. I "split the difference" and took the
Rockhampton route as I was having a few "hot and high" issues through Dubbo and north (flat stick in any gear = 45 km/h) and was seriously questioning my mental condition by Coonabarrabran. The thought of another 1000+ km in similar conditions wasn't appealing...at all.
Having said that you would have a better run in the middle of the dry season.
